Car market activity by region in 2025: where did people buy more?

Last year was a period of final transformation for the Ukrainian car market. While some regions traditionally hold the status of logistics hubs, others become centers of business activity. However, the main change of the year was not even geography, but digitalization, which actually highlighted a separate “virtual area” in the resale structure. Letʼs consider activity by region based on an analysis of the passenger car market, both new and used.

Domestic resales

In the domestic market, the main trend of the past year can be called the fixation of the remote method of selling cars using Diya. If earlier the majority of motorists were skeptical, because out of old habit they trusted only paper documents and “wet” seals, now Diya has grown into a separate “digital area”, where in a regional context the largest number of purchase and sale transactions take place. It is not excluded that this may later happen with the long-promised customs clearance in Diya — at first there will be caution, and later as with the domestic market.

Among physical locations, the leadership is held by the capital (12.12%) and Dnipropetrovsk region (7.17%). Southern and western regions (Odessa, Kyiv, Lviv) maintain a stable share within 5%. The lowest activity, which is quite expected due to the security situation, is observed in Donetsk and Kherson regions, which together account for less than 1% of resales.

Import of used cars

The segment of "freshly driven" cars is clearly focused on the western border and financial centers. Here, the leadership is held by the Lviv region (14.05%), which is the main logistics gateway for used vehicles from Europe.

Kyiv is only slightly behind the leader with a share of 13.14%, but together with Kyiv region (6.57%), the capital region forms almost a fifth of all imports. High activity in Rivne region (5.93%) and Volyn region (5.3%) once again confirms: proximity to the border remains a key factor for this business. At the same time, the eastern and southern regions, although they participate in imports, show much lower figures, since the road from the EU to Kharkiv or Mykolaiv significantly increases the cost of logistics.

New cars

The new passenger car market remained the most centralized segment in 2025. Kyiv is out of competition here: 42% of all new cars left showrooms in the capital. If we add to this the indicator of the Kyiv region (6.06%), it turns out that almost every second new car in the country has a capital registration.

The remaining regions lag significantly behind. Only Dnipropetrovsk (7.91%), Odessa (6.23%) and Lviv (6.01%) regions show a relatively noticeable presence. In most other regions, the share of sales does not exceed 2-3%, which indicates a high concentration of solvent demand in several of the largest cities of the country.

Summing up, we can state: the Ukrainian car market in 2025 became a mirror of the economic situation. The domestic market successfully "went into the smartphone", imports are steadily relying on Western logistics, and the new car segment remains the prerogative of large business centers.
