What are the most popular passenger cars in the domestic market? Top 10 brands and models of September 2025
In the domestic market, during September 2025, the service centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs registered 72.4 thousand contracts for the purchase and sale of used cars. This is 4% less than in August 2025, and 6.2% less than the contracts concluded last year in September 2024.
The domestic market volumes in the diagram are shown in the upper (blue) part of the columns, and in the lower (orange) part are the volumes of used car imports, which we will soon consider in a separate publication.

Last month, Volkswagen retained its lead in the domestic resale market by a significant margin, more than double its nearest competitor. This demonstrates the enduring trust in the brand, which is valued for its reliability, simplicity, and maintainability.
Next on the list, with less contrast in terms of volumes, are VAZ, BMW, Renault and Skoda, where the competition is literally several dozen cars. The list continues with Audi, Toyota, Ford, Mercedes-Benz and Nissan — consistently popular brands that cover the needs of different segments: from budget to premium, from gasoline to hybrids or electric cars.

Among the models with mileage, the most popular in September was again the Volkswagen Passat — it was noticeably ahead of the rest of the participants in the rating. In second place is the Daewoo Lanos (with relatives like the Sens or L-1300), which indicates a revival of interest in budget cars. In third place is the Skoda Octavia, a model that has always been distinguished by a good balance of price and features. Also among the leaders is the Volkswagen Golf, from which this time, unlike previous months, the rest of the participants in this Top 10 were well behind.
The Renault Megane led the second subgroup of the top ten, which included the long-time bestsellers BMW 5 and 3 series, the pragmatic Ford Focus and Opel Astra, and the compact Skoda Fabia.

The average age of cars on the secondary market did not change last month, and is 15.5 years.

As always, we will finish by counting the premium segment cars. So, last month, the following number of new owners for not-quite-new cars of this group were found on the domestic market: 2 Lamborghinis, 2 Aston Martins, 4 Rolls-Royces, 11 Maseratis, and 8 Bentleys.
The car of the most respectable age this time is the classic Mercedes-Benz 170 V from 1938. This is not just a car, it is a symbol of reliability, which was once saved by Mercedes-Benz. The black sedan with a 1700 cc gasoline engine (original 38 hp) proved that the engineering genius of that time does not know the expiration date. In fact, this 87-year-old car did not just change owners, but set an interesting record: it confirmed that true quality is not measured in years. While modern cars can be capricious after updating the "firmware", this "grandfather" continues to confidently live his life.
It is not known whether the new owner plans to use it for daily commuting or whether it is a valuable exhibit for a private collection. But one thing is clear: the story continues, and our secondary market is always ready to surprise!
