Experts from the Institute of Automotive Market Research analyzed vehicle registration statistics in Ukraine and identified the most popular models in three segments of trucks weighing over 3.5 tons (except for tractor units) : used imports, domestic resales, and purchases of new cars, including those converted in Ukraine.
Truck market dynamics
The market volume of trucks with a gross weight of over 3,500 kg as of July 2025 amounted to 1,459 units. Compared to June of the same year, this is 0.5% more, and 38.7% less compared to July 2024. Monthly dynamics can be seen in the diagram.
The structure of this segment is as follows: 70.4% (1027 units) — domestic resales, 16.7% (243 units) — imports of used trucks; 3.8% (56 units) — imports of new trucks, 9.1% (133 units) — sales of trucks manufactured (or converted in the factory) in Ukraine. The total share of new vehicles in this group was 13%.
The dynamics by individual subsegments, the shares of which were just given, are as follows:
- Domestic resales: −2.5% MM, −47.7% YY
- Used imports: +15.2% MM, +48.2% YY
- New imports: +12.0% MM, +7.7% YY
- Made in Ukraine: −3.6% MM, −34.5% YY
Top 10 trucks in the domestic market
The most popular type in this subsegment was dump trucks, with stable demand for vans and flatbed versions.
The situation with the models is consistently contrasting: on the one hand, modern cars of European brands, on the other, equipment from Soviet times, which, despite its age, is still in circulation. The leader this time is the GAZ-3307 — a typical example of the “legacy of the Union” that is still trying to stay in service. Next to it is the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, which, although lighter, is actively used in freight transportation due to its versatility. Next on the list is the same assortment of ZiLs and KamAZs and cars from well-known European manufacturers.
It is worth noting that this segment is the oldest in the Ukrainian car market — the average age of trucks in the 3500+kg group was 25.5 years.
Top 10 imported trucks with mileage
The Ukrainian fleet was most often replenished last month with tail lift vans, regular vans, and refrigerated vans.

In the segment of heavy and medium-duty truck imports, this time the three leaders are clearly visible: MAN TGL, Mercedes-Benz Atego and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. For obvious reasons, i.e. the lack of supply abroad of Soviet-made vehicles, our fleet is being replenished with used trucks of European brands.
The average age of newly arrived trucks with a gross weight of over 3.5 tons was 9.3 years.
Top 10 new trucks
In terms of types, the greatest demand in this subsegment was for dump trucks, vans, and aerial platforms.
Among the new trucks registered in July, brands unfamiliar to the general public dominate, and mainly chassis of foreign origin, which after retrofitting in Ukraine receive completely different names. In the top — Reform, several units of MAN TGS and Volkswagen Crafter. Further down the list are representatives of the local market of special equipment and superstructures.
These cars may look like collection trucks, fuel tankers, utility vehicles, or hydraulic lift trucks, but in statistics they go by separate local names.
