“Prygon” is the basis of the electric car segment in Ukraine. This word, familiar to motorists, refers to the import of used cars, even when the car is not actually “driven,” but is transported by sea or delivered by a car carrier. Here are the numbers that prove it: the share of “freshly driven” cars among all electric cars on the market according to the results of the first quarter of 2025 was 56.6%, that is, more than half, and, accordingly, more than the other two subsegments — sales of new and domestic resales of used electric cars.
In total, during the first three months of this year, the Ukrainian car fleet was replenished with 11,705 BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) passenger cars with mileage.
The dynamics of this part of the car market are as follows: plus 21.9% compared to the volumes of 2024 in the same 1st quarter.
We remind you that 2025 is the last year when customs clearance privileges for electric vehicles are in effect. We predict an increase in import volumes this year, as well as the possibility of queues for them and a price increase that may begin in the summer. What electric cars were most often ordered, and, accordingly, "brought" from abroad last year? Here, the tastes of Ukrainian motorists turned out to be quite clear: almost a third of them chose Tesla. Nissan is currently holding its own thanks to two generations of the Leaf, and hopes for the success of the Ariya crossover, but in the e-SUV group the competition is much tougher than it was at the time of the appearance of the first generation of the Leaf in the compact hatchback environment, where it actually had no one to compete with. The third position is held by Hyundai, which entered the group of brands with a share of over 10%, thanks to the growth in demand for the Ioniq and Kona.
Among the individual models that most often replenished the Ukrainian car fleet, the leadership is still held by the Nissan Leaf, which last year occasionally exchanged first place with the Tesla Model 3. For a certain period, there was even a possibility that the Model Y also had certain plans to lead this table, and this time the American crossover managed to come a record close to realizing this idea — it was literally just a few cars short. It is possible that in the following periods, two Models created on a common platform will lead the import rating. Regardless of how Elon Musk behaves.
The average age of electric cars that arrived in our country last year was 5.2 years — the lowest value among all segments of our used car market.
