The import of passenger cars is gaining momentum. What did you manage to "drive" in July?
Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of the first registrations of passenger cars and identified the Top 20 most popular models that were "imported" from abroad in July 2024.
In July 2024 , 20,300 used cars imported from abroad were submitted for first registration. Unlike the previous section, there were no significant jumps or dips in the "enslavement" segment — no more than natural volume fluctuations within the usual limits. In particular, this indicator is 10.2% higher than in July 2023, and also slightly higher than a month earlier — by 8.3%.
The most popular brands of imported cars with mileage
As in the domestic resale segment, the rating of "freshly driven" used cars in July was traditionally led by the Volkswagen brand, and once again with a clear margin from rivals in terms of quantity and market share. Almost 3,000 cars with the VW badge were registered, which was 14.6% of the total number.
Second place continues to be held by Audi, with the result of 1.9 thousand first registrations and a share of 9.5%. In third place is Nissan (7.6%, 1.5 thousand), followed by Renault with a result of 1.4 thousand and a share of 6.7%. The fifth place belongs to BMW, whose passenger cars arrived in 1.3 thousand, which is a share of 6.6%.

The most popular models of used cars from abroad
Volkswagen Golf remained the leader of "freshly driven" used cars. In July , 823 of these were brought. The presence of an electric version of the e-Golf, which we take into account in the total number, as it differs only in the type of power plant, and according to this parameter, the models in the ratings are not divided, helps it to hold the primacy.
Skoda Octavia is in second place (681 units), Volkswagen Passat is in third place (619 units), which has moved up a notch compared to the previous import rating.. The fourth on the list is Voklswagen Tiguan, which was "caught up" and submitted for the first registration in the number of 572 cars.
Renault Megane closes the top five "freshly driven" cars with a total of 534 cars.
In the Top 20 of July, as in several previous months, there are three electric cars: Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model 3 and another Tesla — Model Y. In addition to them, electric Volkswagen e-Golfs, which added 209 cars to our fleet, are included in the total. On the other hand, the electric Ford Focus, which is a direct competitor and "classmate" of the Golf, is losing its popularity — only 6 of them have arrived, which does not have a significant impact on the market and positioning of the mentioned model in the ratings. The import of electric cars is facilitated by the "zero" rate of customs clearance and the absence of a fee to the Pension Fund upon first registration, but prevents interruptions in the supply of electricity.

It should be taken into account that between customs clearance and the first registration, which is actually accounted for in this review, a certain amount of time elapses — from several days to several months (if, for example, a car from the USA needs repair). Therefore, processing the first registrations, we see the results of imports with a certain delay, especially regarding cars from the countries of America, China or Korea.

About electric trucks, which recently received benefits in the form of VAT cancellation on them. So far, these changes in import rules have not had much of an impact on their import volumes.
