Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine in June and identified the most popular models in three segments of buses: import of used, domestic resale and purchase of new ones.
Bus market dynamics
In June 2024, Ukrainian carriers purchased 604 new and used buses. This is 32.1% less than in the same period last year, and 35.5% less than in May 2024. The peak of trading in the bus segment fell in August last year, then the demand for this type of passenger transport decreased, after which there was a slight increase in trading in February of this year, which at the beginning of spring changed to a decrease in volumes, which was interrupted only in May, probably due to "rewriting» of transport, and then everything came to record low values in June.
By individual sub-segments, the dynamics of bus sales is as follows (comparing last month to the previous month, MM, and last month to the same month last year, YY):
- Domestic resales: -39.3% MM, -33.1% YY
- Used imports: -10% MM, -22.2% YY
- Import new: +50% MM, +200% YY
- Made in Ukraine: −12.5% MM, −50% YY
Most of the buses were bought on the domestic market : 501 units, which accounted for 82.9% of the total number.
10.4% of the total number of used buses were brought from abroad : 63 units.
Also last month, 40 new buses were registered for the first time: 28 of them were manufactured or converted in Ukraine ( 4.6% ), the remaining 12 (2%) came from abroad.
The most popular buses on the domestic market
Buses based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter remain the leader in domestic resales, 142 of which were bought. A significant part of these vehicles was converted into passenger buses from trucks at one time.
In second place is BAZ "Etalon" A079with a result of 39 cars. In third place is "Bohdan" A-092 (35 units), in fourth place is Volkswagen LT(25 pcs.).
The fifth place, with the number of 25 buses, was taken by Iveco Daily.
In general, the majority of buses in the domestic market are of small and medium capacity.

The average age of buses sold on the domestic market in June was 19.4 years.
The most popular used buses brought from abroad
Due to a large number of legislative restrictions, few buses are brought from abroad today. Such vehicles are subject to the limitation of the environmental standard no lower than "Euro-5" (from next year — "Euro-6"), and the amount of excise tax is 50 times higher for buses over 8 years old, which makes their import economically unprofitable.
In June, buses based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter took first place, 14 of them arrived. In second place is the city VDL Ambassador (6 pcs.).
The third place is occupied by the Volkswagen Crafter (4 units), which it shares with the Mercedes-Benz Citaro city/suburban bus with a similar number of 4 new arrivals. According to this principle, the fourth position went to three models — Volvo B7, VanHool T9 and Scania T-series, because they entered the first registration in the same number — 3 each. each Accordingly, the fifth place is shared by VDL Citea, Plaxton Elite, Neoplan Starliner and Cityliner.

The most popular new buses
Most of the new buses that Ukrainians registered for the first time in June are products of Ukrainian enterprises. The first place was won by BAZ A081 "Etalon", familiar to residents of Ukrainian cities, with a score of 12 cars.
Second place in Ford Transit(10 pcs.), third at Bohdan/Ataman A-092 (6 pcs.).
The fourth position belongs to Bohdan/Ataman A-093 (6 pcs.). GOR A 2437.45 (2 pcs.) also made it to the top five of this modest rating, and to put it simply, this is a Mercedes-Benz Vario with a new bus body.
