Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of registrations of cars with electric power plants and identified the Top-20 brands and models in three segments: import of used cars, domestic resale and purchase of new electric cars.
Dynamics of the electric car market
In June, Ukrainians bought 6,200 new and used electric cars. This is 37.1% more than last June 2023, but 16.4% less than May.
Now it is too early to comment on these fluctuations in detail, since the domestic market is dependent on imports, and the wave of re-registration of "excess" transport caused by the new "mobilization" law has not yet subsided. However, despite this, the so-called "statistical plateau" is quite clearly visible on the diagram, at least for the sub-segments of imports and sales of new cars of the BEV group.
In addition, it is worth noting that the new price for electricity for household consumers will not have an impact on this part of the market — this issue is discussed in more detail in a separate article. However, another factor, namely the supply of electricity according to schedules, will definitely have a negative impact, restraining the development of the segment.
So, what are the results of the past month?
Imported used electric cars occupied 54.1% of the market, the number of first registrations was 3,375 units.
On the domestic market, 2,069 purchase and sale agreements for electric vehicles were concluded, which is a share of 33.2%.
12.7% of electric cars were bought new ( 795 units). After the record in February, when the number of new electric cars passed the mark of one thousand pieces, in the following months their sales volume fluctuates between 700-800 units.
Among the total number of electric cars in May, 98.3% were cars, 1.7% were trucks (104 units).
Park of electric cars
As of the beginning of June 2024, according to the estimates of the Institute of Car Market Research, the total fleet of automobiles with electric engines is 111,063 units., registered in Ukraine (with the exception of those removed from the register in connection with culling and export abroad). This number includes 108,258 cars, 2,799 trucks and 6 buses. The actual number may be lower, since not all facts of destruction or theft of electric cars in the temporarily occupied territories have been documented, and there is also no exact number of those cars that have gone abroad, while not issuing a deregistration in connection with this circumstance.
Electric cars are a domestic market
The leader in the Ukrainian domestic market of electric cars remains Tesla, whose cars are among the best in terms of characteristics and capabilities, and even now their prices have dropped tremendously.
Also among the top three favorites of Ukrainian buyers was Nissan, which managed to hold the lead for almost 10 years thanks to the most affordable and therefore the most popular Nissan Leaf model.
Volkswagen occupied an intermediate position between the leaders and the "peloton", with a share of more than ten percent (12.1%), but less than the two brands just mentioned. The share of others is less than 5%.

Among the models of "freshly driven" electric cars, the leader has changed over the years: this time the list is headed by the Tesla Model 3 (413 units), displacing the Nissal Leaf (407 units), which was only a few cars behind, to second place. However, the relatively affordable American family sedan managed to beat the really affordable and moderately practical Japanese hatchback. And Tesla Model Y (366 units) quietly creeps up to the top of the rating, which is clearly hindered by the price to beat both rivals and take the first place, but the affection of our motorists for crossovers allows this model to believe in its own strength and move up.
On the fourth (not as interesting as the previous three) position is the Volkswagen e-Golf (206 units). Rounding out the top five is another product of the American automobile industry, at one time almost a cult car — the Tesla Model S, with a total of 195 first registrations. Which can now be bought for $10-15 thousand.

The recent abolition of VAT on electric trucks did not have much impact on their import volumes. In June , 80 such units arrived, slightly more than in previous months, but this number is clearly not a revolution in the market. This sub-segment is based on two models: Renault Nangoo ZE and Nissan e-NV200. Others arrive in units. Here is a list of all newly arrived trucks submitted for first registration in June:

Electric cars — sales of new ones
The lead in the list of brands of new passenger cars in the BEV group is now unexpectedly Honda, with 169 vehicles and a segment share of 21.3%. The second place with the result of 134 cars and 16.9% belongs to BYD, the third place belongs to Nissan with 91 cars and a share of 11.4%. And as far as the fourth position is the leader of the previous periods, Volkswagen, with a total of 86 cars and a share of 10.8%, which very unexpectedly gave up — not that under the pressure of competitors, rather it looks as if it simply stopped the game, which will be even better seen later, in the rating of individual models. Fifth place for MG, 75 cars and 9.4%.
- By the way, some electric cars from China can be bought with a warranty — for example , the Maxus brand. The official dealer present in Ukraine is ready to support the warranty for them for up to 5 years, and for the battery for up to 8 years!

Among individual models , Honda M-NV (140 units) takes first place in June, with a clear quantitative advantage over all other participants in the rating, as it was before with the model, which this time unexpectedly took only fourth place. In the next, second place is the Nissan Ariya (89 units).
MG 4 is in third position with a total of 70 new cars sold.
The fourth step is the Volkswagen ID.4 (69 units), and it is quite difficult to explain such a sharp drop of this crossover in the rating of new "electric cars" — either logistics costs have changed, or local (Chinese) dealers are less willing to sell cars abroad, since a lot of dissatisfaction was expressed by European dealers regarding the relocation of this particular model. Certain technical nuances of the operation of this car could also have influenced it — rear-wheel drive (in the Crozz versions), which few people pay attention to before the onset of winter, different-sized tires on the axles, certain problems with electronics, but for now all this is only speculation, because the same Honda M -NV actually arrives via a similar route and is produced under a different brand for the Chinese domestic market. When we have a clear answer on this, we will be sure to share it.
Rounding out the five new electric cars is BYD Song Plus, which was submitted for the first registration in the number of 61 cars.
