What buses did you buy in May? Rating of new and used models

Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine in May and identified the most popular models in three segments of buses: import of used, domestic resale and purchase of new ones.

Bus market dynamics

In May 2024, Ukrainian carriers purchased 936 new and used buses. This is 19.1% more than in the same period last year, and also 33% more than in April 2024. The peak of trading in the bus segment occurred in August last year, then the demand for this type of passenger transport decreased, after which there was a slight increase in trading in the segment in February of this year, which at the beginning of spring changed to a decrease in volumes, which was interrupted only in May.

By individual sub-segments, the dynamics of bus sales is as follows (comparing last month to the previous month, MM, and last month to the same month last year, YY):

• Domestic resales: +35.9% MM, +33.7% YY
• Used import: +89.2% MM, -17.6% YY
• New imports: -46.7% MM, +166.7% YY
• Made in Ukraine: −27.3% М-М, −60% YY

Most of the buses were bought on the domestic market : 826 units, which accounted for 88.2% of the total number.

7.5% of the total number of used buses were brought from abroad : 70 units.

Also last month, 40 new buses were registered for the first time: 32 of them were manufactured or converted in Ukraine ( 3.4% ), the remaining 8 (0.9%) came from abroad.

The most popular buses on the domestic market

Buses based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter remain the leader in domestic resale, 269 of them were bought. A significant part of these vehicles was converted into passenger buses from trucks at one time.

In second place is BAZ "Etalon" A079with a result of 77 cars. Volkswagen LT is in third place (54 units), and Bogdan A092 is in fourth place (48 units).

Fifth place, with the number of 33 buses, was taken by Iveco Daily.

In general, the majority of buses in the domestic market are of small and medium capacity.

The average age of buses sold on the domestic market in May was 19.6 years.

The most popular used buses brought from abroad

Due to a large number of legislative restrictions, few buses are brought from abroad today. Such vehicles are subject to the limitation of the environmental standard no lower than "Euro-5" (from next year — "Euro-6"), and the amount of excise tax is 50 times higher for buses over 8 years old, which makes their import economically unprofitable.

In May, buses based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter took first place, 11 of them arrived. In second place is Volkswagen Crafter, which is similar to it in terms of overall size, with a total of 8 "freshly driven" buses.

The third place goes to cars for the city of VDL Ambassador (6 pcs.). The fourth is a "tourist" VanHool T9 (5 units), the fifth (with a similar number of 5 units) a Mercedes-Benz Citaro city/suburban bus.

The most popular new buses

Most of the new buses that Ukrainians registered for the first time in May are products of Ukrainian enterprises. The first place was won by "Bohdan" A-092, familiar to residents of Ukrainian cities, with a score of 18 cars.

The second place was taken by BAZ A081 "Etalon", which is no less familiar to the townspeople (7 pcs.), however, this time the majority (5 pcs.) were not "routes", but school buses of this model.

Fourth position in Ford Transit (5 units). Also, the suburban/tourist Otokar Navigo T of Turkish production , of which 2 units were bought, can be included in the five leaders of this modest rating.
