In March, Ukrainians actively bought trucks. Top models

Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine in March and identified the top models in three segments of trucks weighing more than 3.5 tons (except tractor-trailers): used import, domestic resale and purchase of new cars, including those converted in Ukraine .

Truck market dynamics

In March, Ukrainians purchased 2,200 trucks with a gross weight of more than 3.5 tons (excluding tractors). This is 2100% more than in the same period last year and 29.4% more than in February 2023.

Most of the trucks in February were purchased on the domestic market: 84.1% (1.9 thousand units). Used 7.1% of trucks (157 units) were brought from abroad.

Even fewer new trucks were purchased: 51 imported and 142 converted in Ukraine (193 units in total, 8.8% ). Such an indicator turned out to be a record for the last 12 months: sales of trucks, as well as in the passenger car segment, are catching up with "pre-war" indicators.

The most popular trucks in the domestic market

Mercedes-Benz T1/T2 trucks remain the leader of domestic resales according to the results of March (100 purchase and sale agreements). The chassis of these cars have remained popular for many years in a row for various superstructures based on them. Despite the fact that these models were discontinued more than 20 years ago, Ukrainians actively buy them, primarily because of the difficult economic situation and the impossibility of buying a newer car.

In second place is the popular Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (87 deals), which is also used as a platform for various cargo superstructures.

The third place was taken by Mercedes-Benz Atego (82 deals), and the fourth — KamAZ 5320 (75 deals). The latter, in comparison with last month, fell two steps down.

Rounding out the top 5 series is the MAN L2000 family of light trucks (63 units)

It is noteworthy that 6 of the 15 most popular trucks in March were models of the Russian-Soviet automobile industry. At the same time, the average age of trucks weighing more than 3.5 tons sold on the domestic market in March 2023 was 23.3 years.

The most popular used trucks brought from abroad

Used Mercedes-Benz Ategos (26 units) were most imported from abroad in March. The used Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, which traditionally led the rating of this market segment, dropped to second place (24 units).

The third place was taken by MAN TGL (18 units), and Iveco Daily (17 units) rounds out the top five.

The most popular new trucks

Among the new imported cars, the most popular were RENAULT (20 units), XCMG (6 units) and VOLKSWAGEN (5 units).
