The absolute majority of cars on the market today are sold online. The Automoto.ua aggregator collects ads for the sale of all cars from 100 auto sites in Ukraine. Based on these data, the experts of the Institute of Car Market Research investigated the activity of sellers, determined the financial volume of the car market in the past 2022, and also described the situation in the regions and compiled a rating of brands by the total value of cars on sale.
Dynamics of the online car market
During February 2022, Ukrainians published more than 236,000 ads for the sale of used cars on the Internet. In total, these cars were worth $1.8 billion, which is $90 million more (+5.3%) than in January 2023, and the same as in February 2023. That is, despite the fact that the average price of cars decreased in February, the financial volume of the Ukrainian car market increased.
In general, the dynamics of the online car market by the number of ads synchronously repeats the financial indicators: the greater the number of ads, the greater the total value of the cars in the ads.
In which regions were the most cars sold online?
The largest number of advertisements in February 2023 were placed in Kyiv region and Kyiv (37.7 thousand). In total, these cars cost $434.3 million.
Dnipropetrovsk region rose to second from third place: 20,300 ads with a total value of $148.6 million. The third position was taken by the Lviv region (17,500 ads with a total value of $157.6 million ).
Fourth place was taken by Odesa : during February, Ukrainians there posted 17,200 ads for the sale of cars with mileage on the Internet, which were worth a total of $134.1 million.
The Kharkiv region rounds out the top five with 81,400 ads and the total value of these cars is $81.4 million.

- Zaporizhzhia — 6.7 thousand, $40.6 million.
- Zakarpattia — 6.4 thousand, $53.3 million.
- Chernivtsi — 6 thousand, $44.9 million.
- Ternopilska — 6 thousand, $45.3 million.
- Sumy — 5.9 thousand, $33.6 million.
- Kirovohradsk — 5.6 thousand, $29.5 million.
- Chernihivska — 5.2 thousand, $28.8 million.
- Donetsk — 5.2 thousand, $28.7 million.
- Luhansk — 1.7 thousand, $16.1 million.
- Khersonska — 0.8 thousand, $4.1 million.
The fewest sales offers were recorded in Kherson (0.8 thousand with a total value of $4.1 million), Luhansk (1.7 thousand with a total value of $16.1 million), Donetsk (5.2 thousand, $28.7 million), Chernihiv (5.2 thousand, $28.8 million) and Kirovohrad (5.6 thousand, $29.5 million) regions.
What brands are most sold
In February, the Volkswagen brand had the highest total value : $224.8 million. Mercedes-Benz took second place ( $164.9 million ), and BMW took third ( $139.4 million ).
Toyota ( $112.5 million ) and Audi ( $108.5 million ) also entered the top five.

It is interesting that the VAZ brand was the first in terms of the number of ads in February — Ukrainians published 31,900 such ads, then this brand was in 12th place in terms of total value. Instead, Mercedes-Benz, which ranked fifth in the number of ads (11.8 thousand), took second place in another list — by the total cost of ads. This happens due to the different average cost of cars of brands.
Renault (13.1 thousand) and Opel (12.6 thousand) were also in the top 5 by the number of ads in February.
