Gas for cars: How many cars have had LPG since the beginning of 2025?

The main reason why car owners decide to install LPG equipment (LPG) is the desire to reduce fuel costs. True, the times when propane-butane at gas stations cost half as much as gasoline are already in the past (unless you compare the price of LPG to premium grades such as A-100). However, some savings on gas fuel are still possible.

How did things go in this part of the market in the first half of the year? This is what analysts from the Auto Market Research Institute studied, and they are ready to share the results of this work.

In total, during the first 6 months of 2025, HBO officially appeared (only those facts of re-equipment registered by the service centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are taken into account) on almost 5.9 thousand vehicles. For comparison, in the first half of 2024 this number was 11.1 thousand, in H1-2023 — 17.7 thousand.

Here is the breakdown by type (H1-2025):

  • Passenger cars — 5806 conversions
  • Cargo — 108 conversions
  • Buses — 4 conversions

The dynamics by month is as follows:

Separately, the number of installations by type, in June 2025:

  • Passenger cars — 1052 conversions
  • Cargo — 25 conversions
  • Buses — 0

About fuel: This year began with price tags at gas stations in the "gas" window at about 35 UAH/l. However, the price then rose rapidly, as new excise duty rates came into effect, and drivers were buying a propane-butane mixture for an average of 37 UAH/l. After the winter peak, the retail price of LPG gradually decreased, and is now about 34 UAH/l.

Changes in fuel prices, exchange rate fluctuations (which directly affect the cost of gas cylinder equipment), as well as the emergence of mandatory certification of conversions — all this has significantly affected the market. As a result, the structure of demand has also changed: if a few years ago, LPG was most often installed on budget models — such as VAZ or Daewoo — today more and more car owners are choosing conversions for significantly more expensive cars.

HBO — top 10 brands in H1-2025

In the first half of 2025, Toyota became the leader — 617 cars of this brand received LPG. This is a clear signal: gas is beginning to be perceived not only as a "lifeline", but as a smart investment even for higher-class cars. Also among the leaders are Volkswagen, Nissan, Jeep, Ford and Hyundai, that is, mainly those brands that are actively present in the secondary import market from the USA. Another common feature is the presence of "aspirated" gasoline engines, which are ideal for conversion.

HBO — top 10 models in H1-2025

Looking at the list of specific models, the picture becomes even clearer. Most often, HBO was installed on Skoda Octavia (209 cars), Toyota Camry (180) and Nissan Rogue (164) — all of these models have either a proven reputation or "American roots". Next come Mitsubishi Outlander, Jeep Compass and Cherokee, as well as Golf, Passat, Chevrolet Aveo and the same Daewoo Lanos, which, although it has lost ground, is still in the top ten. So, "putting on gas" today is not only about saving, but also about a pragmatic approach to owning a vehicle.
