Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine in January and identified the top models in three segments of trucks weighing more than 3.5 tons (except tractor-trailers): used import, domestic resale and purchase of new cars, including those converted in Ukraine .
Truck market dynamics
In January, Ukrainians purchased 1,500 trucks with a gross weight of more than 3.5 tons (excluding tractors). This is −31.8% less than in the same period last year and −11.8% less than in December 2022.
Most of the trucks in November were purchased on the domestic market: 85.9% (1.3 thousand units). Used 6.4% of trucks (only 96 units) were brought from abroad. This indicator is the lowest in the last 12 months.
Even fewer new trucks were purchased: 22 imported and 93 converted in Ukraine (115 units in total, 7.7%).
The most popular trucks in the domestic market
Mercedes-Benz T1/T2 trucks (90 deals) remain the leader of domestic resales in November. The chassis of these cars have remained popular for many years in a row for various superstructures based on them. Despite the fact that these models were discontinued more than 20 years ago, Ukrainians are actively buying them.
KamAZ 5320 took second place (72 deals), and the popular Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (56 deals), which is also used as a platform for cargo superstructures, came in third.
Fourth place was taken by ZIL 130 and its modifications(40 deals). Rounding out the top five is the Iveco Daily (36 deals).

The most popular used trucks brought from abroad
Since the import of used trucks is subject to an ecological standard not lower than Euro-5, and the tax rate on such cars over 5 years old is 40 times higher, few are imported from abroad. Accordingly, even a few units of imported cars can radically change the monthly rating of models.
Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is in first place (15 units), MAN TGL is in second place (13 units), and Mercedes-Benz Atego is in third place (11 units).

New trucks, due to their expensive price and the low level of the economy in Ukraine, are bought at a minimum. Therefore, it is impossible to make a full rating of models in such conditions, but the list of the most popular brands shows the overall picture of this market segment.
In January, 5 units were purchased. Volvo, as well as 3 pcs. Scania, Ford and Fiat. MAZ was also in the top 5 — 2 units were bought.
