Small commercial equipment sales fall by a third, but the market is growing: 2022 results
Sales of small commercial vehicles — trucks with a gross weight of up to 3.5 tons — will drop by a third in 2022. However, despite all the negative circumstances, this segment of the market has stabilized and is growing for the third month in a row. Experts of the Auto Market Research Institute determined in which regions cars of this category and top 25 models are most often bought in the domestic market, among "freshly driven" and new LCVs.
LCV market dynamics
In December, Ukrainians bought almost 4,300 new and used carscargo vehicles with a total weight of up to 3.5 tons, i.e. those belonging to the LCV category. This is −40.6% less than in December 2021 and 3.6% more than in November 2022.
In total, during 2022, Ukrainians purchased 46,800 LCV vehicles. This is 33% less than in 2021.
The majority of small commercial equipment ( 64.2%, 44.8 thousand) in 2022 was purchased on the domestic market. Another 24.4% (17 thousand) were brought used from abroad. Only 11.4% (8 thousand) of LCVs were bought new. Of this number , 2,000 were converted by Ukrainian enterprises from imported machine sets or chassis.
After the start of the full-scale invasion, the LCV market in Ukraine, like in all other segments, "shrunk" to minimum indicators. However, already in April, it began to recover, and in June it reached its peak: 4.8 thousand sold cars of this category. This figure was achieved thanks to the action of the so-called "zero" customs clearance: during the month, most vehicles were imported used from abroad ( 49.2% ). After the return of customs payments, the share of imported cars decreased, and the total volume of sales stabilized at the level of 4 — 4.5 thousand cars per month.
In which areas are the most purchased LCVs
In 2022, the largest number of new and used LCVs were registered in the city of Kyiv (5.4 thousand), which accounted for 11.5% of the total number. Another 4.7 thousand cars of this category ( 10.1% ) were registered in the Kyiv region.
The third place in the rating was taken by the Lviv region (3.9 thousand, 8.4%). Dnipropetrovsk region was on the fourth step (3.6 thousand, 7.7%), and Rivne region rounded out the top 5 (2.9 thousand, 6.3%).
