Experts of the Auto Market Research Institute analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine and identified the top brands in three segments of semi-trailers: import of used, domestic resale and purchase of new ones.
Dynamics of the semi-trailer market
In October 2022, Ukrainians purchased 4.1 thousandnew and used semi-trailers. This is 71% more than in the same period of last year 2021, and 9.1% less than in August 2022. The semi-trailer market is inextricably linked with the sales of semi-trailer trucks, so the decline is noticeable in both of these segments.
According to the results of October, 52.1% of all semi-trailers were brought from abroad used (2.2 thousand units), and 38.3% were bought on the domestic market (1.6 thousand transactions). Only 9.7% of semi-trailers were purchased new (397 units). Of them, 44 pieces were manufactured in Ukraine, and the remaining 353 pieces. imported new from abroad.
The most popular semi-trailers on the domestic market
Tipper semi- trailers were the most in demand on the domestic market in October. They were purchased by 25.9% or 408 units. quantitatively Platforms (280 units) and awning platforms (228 units) were also popular.
Container semi-trailers (211 units) and van semi-trailers (175 units) also made it to the top 5.
As for brands, the leader of the domestic semi-trailer market was the German Shmitz. Among all semi-trailers, they were 17.7% (279 units).
German brands Krone (208 units, 10.3%) and Koegel (151 units, 9.6%) also took the second and third places.
Austrian Schwarzmuller took fourth place in the list of the most popular used semi-trailers in Ukraine (83 units, 5.3%), and Polish Wielton (57 units, 3.6%) rounds out the top five.
The most popular used semi-trailers brought from abroad
During October 2022, the most imported from abroad were awning semi-trailers (683 units). Tipper semi- trailers (599 units) and awning platforms (300 units) were also popular.
The list also included tanks (222 units) and semi-trailers for transporting containers (136 units).
The leader of domestic resale — the Shmitz brand — was the first in the list of the most popular used semi-trailers brought from abroad. Its share was 27.9% (600 units).
Second place was taken by Krone (270 units, 12.6%). Koegel was in third place (191 units, 8.9%), and Wielton was in fourth place (81 units, 3.8%).
Rounding out the top five is Schwarzmuller (71 units, 3.3%).
The most popular new semi-trailers
Almost half of all new semi-trailers sold in October are tipper semi- trailers (171 units, 43.1% ). Another 33.5% was occupied by tank semi-trailers (133 units). The third place with a share of 9.3% (37 units) was taken by the awning semi-trailers, and the fourth place by the awning platform (20 units, 5% ). Closes the top 5 van semi- trailers (16 units, 4% ).
The rating of new semi-trailer brands in October was led by the German Shmitz (18.4%, 73 units), the second and third places were taken by the Polish Wielton (16.9%, 67 units) and Bodex (11.1%, 44 units), respectively.
The Polish MEGA (7.1%, 28 units) is on the fourth step, and the Ukrainian semi-trailer manufacturer TAD is on the fifth (4.8%, 19 units).
