Infographic: What colors are most often chosen by buyers of new and used cars
Choosing a car color in developed countries is often seen as an individual decision that reflects the ownerʼs character, style, and even emotional state. The wide range of available colors allows consumers to choose not only functional transportation, but also to express their uniqueness through the appearance of the car.
At the same time, in the Ukrainian realities of the used car market, priorities are formed differently. Here, pragmatic parameters such as price, mileage, and the general technical condition of the vehicle come to the fore. And even for buyers of new cars, the desired color often remains only in the catalog, since they have to choose from existing models, and not from the entire spectrum of the palette, which limits the possibilities of individualization.
Color distribution
And yet, despite these features, it is interesting to see what colors dominate Ukrainian roads. Below is the current statistics on the distribution of colors of passenger cars sold on the market during the first 7 months of 2025. The sample of used cars included both cars from the domestic market and those that were first registered after import.

The next slide is the distribution of color particles for new passenger cars.

These statistics show that the passenger car market in Ukraine is dominated by achromatic colors: gray, white, and black. These three shades together account for over 73% of the total in the used car segment, and over 80% in the new segment. In contrast, colors associated with individuality and emotions, such as red, blue, or green, are chosen by a much smaller proportion of buyers.
This choice can be explained by several practical reasons. First, achromatic colors are universal and less prone to losing popularity, which has a positive effect on the liquidity of the car in the secondary market. Second, these shades are considered more practical (except for black, of course), since they are less noticeable on small scratches, dirt and dust. Finally, manufacturers, following the demand, more often produce cars in these paint options, which ensures their constant availability and accessibility for buyers.
