In the first half of the year, Ukrainians purchased more than 8,000 electric cars. Almost 40% of them were brought used from abroad. Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics imports and determined from which countries Ukrainians brought the most "electric cars", determined the top models and their average cost.
Where are electric cars coming from in 2022?
The main supplier of used cars with an electric engine in the first half of 2022 became the USA. Ukrainians brought more than 1,000 such cars from overseas, which accounted for 31.4% of their total number. The average customs value of one electric car — that is, the sum of the price of the car abroad and the cost of delivery to Ukraine — amounted to $21.5 thousand.
Electric cars from China were on the second step. This is a relatively new and actively developing market for Ukrainian buyers. During January-June, 649 electric cars arrived from there ( 19.8% of the total number). Their average customs value is fixed at $24.8 thousand.
Third place was taken by Germany : 11.1% of electric cars with mileage imported to Ukraine in the first half of 2022 were purchased there. There were 364 cars with an average cost of $28.1 thousand. So, the most expensive electric cars came from Germany.
The fourth position is for another market that Ukrainians are actively developing: Norway. 362 cars were brought from there, which is 11% of the total number of electric cars. It is interesting that the average cost of a used electric car from Norway was $8.6 thousand — this is the lowest figure among all countries. So, the cheapest electric cars are brought from Norway.
Rounding out the top 5 countries is neighboring Poland with a share of 8.8%, or 290 "electric cars" exported to Ukraine, if you count quantitatively. The average customs value of one car was $20.5 thousand.
Top used electric cars from the USA
The most popular used electric car from America was the Tesla Model 3. In the first 6 months of 2022, as many as 245 such units were brought. The average customs value of such a car was $22.4 thousand.
The Nissan Leaf, popular in Ukraine, became the second most popular electric "American". 231 such units arrived from the USA, and they cost an average of $8,000. Ukrainians choose these electric cars because of the ideal price-quality ratio, and the model has been leading the national ranking of sales of electric cars with mileage for many months in a row.
The third and fourth places were taken by Tesla — respectively Model S (127 units, $24.5 thousand ) and Model Y (121 units, $33.5 thousand ). In general, cars of this brand make up the absolute majority of used "electric cars" that arrived from the USA during January-June.
Rounding out the top 5 is the Chevrolet Bolt — 97 units were delivered with an average cost of $16.8 thousand.
Top used electric cars from China
The German crossover Volkswagen ID.4 topped the rating of electric cars from China. The model for the local market differs from those sold in other countries in appearance, increased range and other improved technical characteristics. Ukrainians brought 204 such electric crossovers, and the average cost of these electric crossovers was $34,100.
In second place was Honda M-NV — a joint development of Japanese Honda and Chinese Donfeng, also aimed at the domestic Chinese market. 125 pieces of these models were imported, the average customs value was $23.1 thousand.
The third and fourth steps were taken by German Volkswagen models, which are manufactured in China. E-Lavida was developed for the domestic Chinese market. The model turned out to be so successful that it began to be unofficially exported to other countries. 60 such "electric cars" arrived in Ukraine, they cost an average of $17,000.
E-Bora for the local market is manufactured in partnership with Chinaʼs FAW. This model was the fourth most popular among electric cars from China bought by Ukrainians: 27 units. with an average cost of $17.8 thousand.
Fifth place was taken by Everus VE-1 — a joint product of Honda and the Chinese GAC Group. Ukraine purchased 20 such electric crossovers from China. Their average customs value was $21.6 thousand.
Top used electric cars from Germany
The leader of the rating of electric cars from Germany was the Volkswagen E-Golf (97 units, average customs value $18.5 thousand ).
The second place was taken by the compact French Renault Zoe (49 units, $9.4 thousand).
In third place is the most affordable Tesla Model 3 in the brand line (28 units, $50,000 ), and the fourth place was taken by the Nissan Leaf (28 units, $18,900 ). It is noteworthy that both models are more than twice as expensive as similar "American" models.
Electric Smart cars were also popular: 26 cars imported from Germany (average customs value of $13.6 thousand) were allowed to occupy the fifth place in the rating.
Top used electric cars from Norway
The best seller of the Ukrainian electric car market — Nissan Leaf — turned out to be the leader of the rating of the most popular electric cars from Norway. Ukrainians purchased 162 such models, and their cost in this country turned out to be the lowest: $7.1 thousand.
The second position was taken by the German Volkswagen Golf (63 units, $11.3 thousand ), and the third by the French Renault ZOE (40 units, $7.9 thousand ).
The model placed on the fourth step is interesting — electric minivan Nissan e-NV200 (21 thousand, $10.7 thousand ).
The used Citroen C-Zero minicar was the cheapest electric car not only from Norway, but also in the general top in general. Its average cost is fixed at $5.4 thousand, and 13 imported models gave the opportunity to take fifth place in the rating.
Top used electric cars from Poland
The rating of used electric cars from Poland is something between the tops of Germany and Norway. In it you can see already familiar models: Nissan Leaf (63 units, $10.8 thousand ) in the first place; Renault ZOE (48 units, $9.7 thousand ) in second place; Volkswagen E-Golf (30 units, $18.1 thousand ) in third and Citroen C-Zero (13 units, $6.9 thousand ) in fifth.
The popular electric "pie" Renault Kangoo ZE, which took the fourth place in the rating, should be singled out from the list. 17 of these were brought from Poland, and they cost an average of $9.1 thousand.
