March 2026 will go down in the history of the Ukrainian car market as the month of the return to total electrification. A total of 6,361 electric vehicle registrations were recorded in three segments (new and used). The main sensational indicator is the explosive growth of domestic resales, which jumped by an incredible 124.6% compared to February. Such anomalous demand was a direct consequence of the fuel shock: when the average cost of a liter of diesel fuel reached 86 UAH, and A-95 gasoline confidently held at 72 UAH, the arguments about “insufficient range” instantly lost their relevance.

The electric vehicle market has shown positive dynamics in all directions. In addition to domestic resales, imports of used vehicles ( +84.9% MM) and the new car segment ( +55.5% MM) have significantly increased. Although in annual terms, import figures are still lower than last yearʼs due to the high comparison base, the March surge clearly indicates a paradigm shift: the electric vehicle has ceased to be an exotic for enthusiasts and has become a means of economic survival for the mass consumer.
Domestic market: the triumph of "peopleʼs" electricity and the expansion of Tesla
A clear hierarchical list of leaders has been formed in the secondary market within the country. The undisputed favorite remains the Japanese hatchback, which has been serving as an “entrance ticket” to the world of electricity for many years. This is a real “Lanos” among electric cars, which, thanks to its simplicity and affordability, provides the bulk of transactions. However, behind its back, a real “battle of the titans” has unfolded from the American manufacturer of innovative cars. Models of this brand, especially compact crossovers and sedans, are rapidly gaining popularity in the secondary market, offering better range and modern digital services.
Also in the top ten of the domestic market, European and Korean city models are firmly holding their own. They are valued for their compactness and understandable service base. Interestingly, electric versions of popular German hatchbacks are increasingly appearing in the list of leaders, which indicates the trust of buyers in traditional brands even in their electric version. In general, the domestic market in March is a story about how used electricity is becoming the main asset for transportation in conditions of expensive fuel.
Import of used equipment: a fresh resource for new realities
In the segment of "freshly driven" electric cars, the structure of preferences is almost identical to the domestic market, but with a greater emphasis on recent years of production and better technical condition. The leader here is also the Japanese model, but its share is actively "bitten off" by American high-tech sedans and crossovers. The March growth in imports by 85% indicates that dealers and individuals are actively looking for reliable sources of supply of used electric cars from Europe and the USA to meet domestic demand.
Particular attention in imports should be paid to Korean and European mid-range crossovers. These cars are becoming an ideal choice for those who are switching from diesel SUVs, seeking to maintain the usual level of comfort with significantly lower operating costs. The March rating of imported models confirms: Ukrainians are ready for more complex equipment if it allows them not to depend on price fluctuations at gas stations.
The market for new electric vehicles: the dominance of Chinese "high-tech"
The segment of new electric cars in March became the territory of undisputed leadership of Chinese brands. While European and Japanese giants are only increasing their presence, manufacturers from the PRC are already offering ready-made, technological and relatively affordable solutions. The first positions in the list of new cars are occupied by models of Chinese origin, including ambitious crossovers and premium sub-brands that offer a level of equipment and range unattainable for traditional competitors in this price category.
German premium brands are also present in the top ten, but they occupy a niche for discerning buyers who value status and proven quality over the years. However, the dynamics of March clearly show: the future of the market for new electric vehicles in Ukraine is now written in hieroglyphs. Hybridization and pure electricity from brands that almost no one had heard of five years ago are today shaping the new face of our roads.
The economy on the socket: analysis of shares and dynamics
March was a month of "green" records in all sectors without exception. The share of electric vehicles in the overall fuel structure grew the most significantly in recent years. In the domestic market, the share of electric cars added 3.1 percentage points, in the import of used cars — 3.2 pp ., and in the segment of new cars the increase was 0.7 pp.
Such figures are a direct reaction to the pricing policy of gas station chains. When A-95 gasoline costs UAH 72 and diesel — UAH 86, buying an electric car turns from an ecological gesture into a strategic investment. Moreover, the development of fast-charging networks and the active educational work of auto bloggers have done their job: the fear of being left with a flat battery in the middle of the road has finally given way to the fear of leaving half your salary at the gas station. The March statistics are a verdict on the era of cheap petroleum products and the beginning of the era of mass electrification of Ukraine.
