Domestic car market: Dynamics, Top 10 brands and models February 2026

In February 2026, the domestic used car market showed the expected decline in activity after the anomalous surges of previous periods. During the month , 56,551 purchase and sale transactions were recorded, which indicates a significant negative dynamics. Compared to January, the volume of resales decreased by 31.9%, and compared to February last year, the drop was 36.9%.

Analysts at the Institute for Automotive Research explain this state of affairs as a general market downturn after excessive activation at the end of 2025, when consumers tried to close deals before the tax rules for importing electric vehicles changed. The current indicators are a natural reaction to the oversaturation of demand in previous months and indicate that the market has entered a phase of long-term stabilization.

Market leaders: brand ranking

In the brand structure, Volkswagen traditionally holds the lead, remaining the undisputed leader in domestic sales. BMW and Renault follow it with a significant lead, which emphasizes the steady interest of Ukrainians in the European auto industry. Skoda and Audi also made the top five most popular brands.

VAZ/Lada products are still confidently holding the top ten. This is explained by the stable demand for the most budget means of transportation in regions where mobility for minimal costs is critically important. The Soviet-origin fleet has not yet exhausted its resource limit, continuing to circulate on the market as the most affordable offer. Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, Ford and Hyundai also maintain stable positions, which forms a balanced picture of preferences between premium German brands and mass Asian or American products.

Model rating

In the model ranking, the first positions are occupied by recognized leaders of the secondary market, such as the Volkswagen Passat and Skoda Octavia. These cars remain "solid middlemen", chosen for their practicality and reasonable cost of maintenance. There is still a high demand for the Daewoo Lanos along with its derivative models. Even nine years after the end of production at ZAZ facilities, this car remains a living commodity.

The high popularity of Lanos today is due to the huge circulation of the model, because in total almost 400 thousand of such cars were produced in Ukraine. Along with popular models, buyers show an attraction to used premium, as evidenced by the high activity in resales of BMW 5 Series, BMW 3 Series and Audi A6, despite the respectable age of many copies. Volkswagen Golf, Renault Megane, Ford Focus and Audi A4 also remain on the list of popular ones.

Premium segment

The segment of elite cars deserves special attention, where February was marked by spotty but significant deals. During the month, one Ferrari, one McLaren, three Aston Martin and four Rolls-Royce were resold. Six Bentleys and twelve Maserati cars also changed owners. However, the most popular brand in the luxury category remains Porsche, with 222 deals. This indicates that Porsche in Ukraine has long gone beyond the exotic, becoming a stable tool for preserving capital in the premium sector.

Conclusion

Summing up the February figures, it can be stated that the domestic market has returned to its classic structure, but at a much lower speed. Buyers have become more balanced, focusing on time-tested mid-range models and affordable premium. The current cooling of interest is a technical pause that allows the market to balance the real capacity of consumers and the available supply of used vehicles.
