Electric cars 2026: Why the market wasnʼt flooded with "battles" and how prices for the TOP 10 models changed

In January 2026, the number of ads for the sale of used electric cars decreased to 6.7 thousand (compared to 11.3 thousand at the peak in March 2025). Despite the predictions of skeptics, there was no mass "dumping" of imported cars — Ukrainians bought cars mainly for their own consumption.

General market situation and the “VAT paradox”

The total value of electric vehicles on sale at the beginning of the year was $147.3 million. An important fact: there have been fewer ads precisely because owners are in no hurry to sell their cars. After all, buying the next one will now have to take into account 20% VAT.

Top 10 electric cars and their price changes

Next is the change in average (median) prices for the top 10 most popular electric cars on the market, taking into account the most popular year of release for each, but without taking into account the specific version or configuration. However, such data can be ordered from the Institute for Car Market Research.

  • VW e-Golf (2015): Stable $8,600. The magic of the Volkswagen badge in Ukraine continues to work flawlessly.
  • VW ID.Unyx (2024): The new favorite, replacing the ID.4. The price has risen to $27,300. The model is being taken “off the rails”, often without even making it to the ads.
  • BYD Song Plus (2025): Price increased from $26,500 to $28,950. In addition to VAT, the price was affected by Chinaʼs own restrictions on the export of new cars (180-day rule).
  • Hyundai Kona (2020): Added about $800, reaching $17,500. Demand for the 64 kWh version remains consistently high.
  • Kia Niro (2020): Showed fluctuations, but eventually settled at $19,375.
  • Nissan Leaf (2014): The price is stable — around $6,750. But it has actually gone up in price, because the batteries degrade every year, and the price does not fall.
  • Renault Zoe (2020): Demonstrates iron stability — the price has changed from $12,150 to $12,200 over the year. The model "boils" in its own juice within the country, almost not reacting to external factors.
  • Tesla Model 3 (2018): Priced around $16,500. Long lines at service stations to restore “beaten” cars from the US are holding back the mass market entry of these cars.

The main news is the discontinuation of Model S and Model X production in 2026.

  • Model S (2015): Price hovers around $14,400. Now itʼs not just a car, but a potential collectorʼs item.
  • Model Y (2023): The most stable price is $28,000. The Juniper update did not cause a price collapse for the previous version.
