The light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment remains an important part of the Ukrainian market due to its combination of functionality and economy. Compared to heavy-duty vehicles, such vehicles are cheaper to operate and consume less fuel. Their small size allows them to work comfortably in urban conditions, and their cargo capacity ensures demand among small and medium-sized businesses. Cargo-passenger modifications make the segment even more versatile, allowing you to combine work tasks and personal trips.
Specialists of the Institute of Car Market Research have determined the dynamics of trade in this segment, as well as the most popular types and models for each of the groups. Letʼs start with the total trade volumes. During August 2025, a total of 3.4 thousand cars of the LCV group were purchased. Compared to August 2024, this is a noticeable 37.3% less. Compared to July of this year, we also record a decrease in volumes, by 4.5%.
Here are the dynamics by subsegments of the LCV market:
- Domestic resales: +0.6% MM, −45.6% YY
- Used imports: −19.5% MM, −28.9% YY
- New imports: +4.1% MM, +3.6% YY
- Made in Ukraine: +13.6% MM, +19.6% YY

The segment structure is as follows: the largest share, 60.4% — in domestic resales; 24.2% were imported used light trucks, 13.4% — new imported, 2% — produced or re-equipped in Ukraine. The total share of new cars — 15.4%. Based on the share of each of the subsegments, we will consider them in more detail in the same order.
LCV — domestic market
In this segment, cargo vans were the most popular, forming the basis of the segment. Cargo-passenger and flatbed versions were purchased less frequently.
In total, more than 2 thousand (2074) purchase and sale transactions for vehicles in this segment took place here.
In the domestic market, the leadership is steadily held by the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter — a universal "bus", which has earned a good reputation in all circles of carriers. The second position is held by the Renault Master, which in recent years has become a favorite of small businesses due to the balance of price and volume. The third on the list is the Volkswagen Transporter — a classic among small "buses".

Popular and more compact models, such as the Renault Kangoo or VW Caddy, are convenient in the city, economical and often used in service or courier services. And the Vito, Trafic and Transit remain favorites among those looking for something more, but not yet a truck.
LCV — used import
In August 2025, our fleet was replenished with 832 LCV family vehicles. Similar to the previous subsegment, here buyers most often chose "fitted" cargo vans, somewhat less often refrigerated vans and flatbed versions.
The market for imported used LCVs has a familiar pattern: Renault Master and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter are almost in step, leaving all competitors far behind. Behind them are Trafic, Crafter, Kangoo and others, but in much smaller numbers.

LCV — new sales
In July 2025, 527 new light trucks entered Ukrainian roads for the first time. Of these, 460 were imported, 67 were registered as manufactured (or converted in the factory) in Ukraine.
Among the types, vans have the advantage here, followed by pickup trucks and refrigerated vans.
Despite the overall dominance of imports, the new light commercial vehicle segment also shows stable demand. The leader is the Renault Express, a compact and economical option for urban deliveries. The Toyota Hilux, a pickup truck increasingly chosen as a versatile tool for business and agriculture, is in second place. The Fiat Ducato is in third place.

The average age in the secondary market as of June for LCVs was 16.4 years for domestic resales, and 6 years for "freshly driven" cars.
