Rating of new electric cars: results of September 2025

The Ukrainian car fleet has been replenished with 11,239 new electric cars since the beginning of 2025, and separately, during September, 2,088 new BEV cars received their first license plates and technical passports, which is a new record for our market. More information about the total statistics in the segment can be found here.

Last month, the Ukrainian market for new electric vehicles not only confirmed the shift towards Chinese brands, but also sent a clear signal that it will not be easy for others to gain a foothold here. BYD confidently maintains its absolute leadership, significantly ahead of its closest competitors. It is important to note that in BYDʼs overall statistics we include the supply volumes of the high-end sub-brand Fangchengbao (FCB), which confirms the scale of the concernʼs technological expansion.

Volkswagen has secured second place, with 77% of its cars manufactured in Europe and 33% in China. Third place goes to Zeekr (Geelyʼs premium brand), which is already confidently competing with traditional manufacturers thanks to its high-tech models.

Of particular note is the high activity of Honda, where 100% of cars came from China — 163 were products of the GAC-Honda JV, 16 — Dongfeng Honda. It is also worth noting the successful consolidation of a new player in the Top 10 — Denza (a joint venture of BYD and Mercedes-Benz), which further illustrates the strengthening of the Chinese giantʼs positions in the premium segment.

Among European premium brands, Audi shows the best result. However — and here there is a “but” — 93% of cars, which were previously said to be exclusively from Ingolstadt, now come from China, the FAV-VW/Audi and SAIC-VW/Audi joint ventures, and only 7 cars were of European production. It would be futile to hope that the electric Mercedes-Benz is now “purely German”, because statistics show that 16 cars were products of the Chinese Beijing-Benz, and only 3 came from European factories. BMW has a slightly different proportion: here it is almost 50/50: 27 cars from China, with a passport from BMW Brilliance Automotive, 26 cars from Germany.

About the VD brand — this is a series of specialized passenger cars, purchased in two batches, with VIN codes, owned by a Ukrainian auto assembly company.

The most notable debut was the appearance of Xiaomi in the ranking. The entry of this technological giant into the car market is a clear signal of a changing era: competition is shifting to the realm of digital ecosystems.

Top 10 brands of new electric vehicles, 09-2025

And here it is appropriate to mention Tesla, precisely because the most popular brand of the secondary market did not make it to the lists of new ones. Despite the obvious, statistically confirmed potential of the Ukrainian car market, we still do not have an official representation of this American manufacturer.

Top 10 new electric car models, 09-2025

Analysis of September statistics at the model level demonstrates an unprecedented concentration of demand for crossovers, mainly Chinese-made, and also confirms the significant impact of parallel imports.

The leadership was taken by Volkswagen ID. Unyx. This result is indicative: the model, officially intended exclusively for the Chinese market, topped the Ukrainian rating. This is direct evidence that the effectiveness of parallel imports and the price attractiveness of Chinese versions of VW are key growth factors.

The real "lionʼs pride" in the ranking was BYD, represented by five models at once, which indicates the flexibility and huge range of the concernʼs offer. Its bestseller BYD Song Plus took second place, and the presence of the BYD Leopard 3 model from the Fangchengbao (FCB) sub-brand emphasizes the active development of premium segments. BYD Sea Lion 07 and Sea Lion 05 aggressively develop the D-SUV segment, while BYD Yuan UP provides coverage of the compact class.

The leaders are being challenged by two other powerful Chinese brands. Zeekr is present in the Top 10 twice, with the 7X and 001 models, proving that the brand confidently holds the niche of high-tech and powerful EVs. The Honda e:NS1, like other Honda models, comes from Chinese factories and demonstrates significant demand for cars imported through parallel channels.

Although the Audi Q4 e-tron model is traditionally associated with European premium, its presence in the Top 10 fully confirms the conclusions of our WMI analysis: demand for this crossover is met 100% by imports of its Chinese versions. This shows that even in the highest price segment, the market for new electric vehicles is being shaped by the price attractiveness of Asian supplies.

Map of BYD offices in Europe

BYDʼs leadership in terms of volume is undeniable, but it is worth emphasizing an important factor of the free market: all this powerful import is carried out through unofficial (parallel) channels. BYD currently does not have an official representative office that would distribute modern electric vehicles in Ukraine, which allows independent importers to provide the most competitive prices. This fact is a vivid illustration of how the right of the buyer to choose ignores traditional distribution barriers. However, this free flow may face new challenges: China, seeking to regulate exports, is gradually introducing special certification and logistical restrictions on the withdrawal of cars from the domestic market. These measures may complicate the operation of parallel imports in the future and affect pricing.

Summing up the review of the market for new electric vehicles based on the results of September, we get that 95% of new BEV cars enter our market from production facilities in China. This indicator includes both domestic Chinese brands and models produced at joint Chinese-European enterprises (Volkswagen, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, BMW), which are imported through parallel channels. The share of cars produced in Europe is only 3.5%. This finally confirms: the market for new electric vehicles in Ukraine is now entirely Asian in origin.
