Trucks over 3.5 tons: Results for March 2026

March statistics of registrations of trucks with a gross vehicle weight of over 3.5 tons (excluding tractor units) demonstrate a pronounced seasonal activation and structural changes due to the critical increase in the cost of energy carriers. As of the end of March, the price of diesel fuel reached almost 90 UAH/l, which became a determining factor when choosing equipment. In total, 1770 registration actions were recorded in all segments during the month.

Domestic market

Domestic resale remains the most massive segment ( 1,307 transactions ), showing a growth of 28% compared to February. However, in annual terms, there is a decrease of 10.5%, which indicates a gradual washout of the outdated park.

The main types of equipment are dump trucks, vans and flatbed trucks. In the structure of preferences, there is a steady dominance of German manufacturers of medium-duty trucks, in particular the Mercedes-Benz Atego and Vario lines. The presence of outdated Soviet-made models (ZIL, GAZ) in the top 10 is noteworthy. Given the cost of diesel fuel at 90 UAH/l and the low energy efficiency of these engines, the operation of such equipment is shifting to the niche of short technological cycles with minimal mileage.

Import of used equipment

The used truck import segment showed growth of 28.9% MM, stabilizing at the level of last year ( 254 units ). The main demand of importers is focused on universal vans equipped with tail lifts and refrigerator units.

The segment leader remains Mercedes-Benz Atego, which emphasizes high confidence in the reliability and maintainability of this platform. There is also an active influx of MAN TGL and TGM models. The key selection criterion in March was compliance with Euro-5 and Euro-6 environmental standards, which allows optimizing operating costs in conditions of expensive fuel.

New car market

The total volume of the new truck market amounted to 209 units. A characteristic feature of March was a sharp jump in new car imports ( +104.7% MM), while domestic production (including conversions) recorded a decrease of 33.1% year-on-year.

The basis of the new car segment is specialized equipment. The leader in registrations was municipal and road vehicles of domestic production based on imported chassis. Among net imports, the Volvo FM and Scania P-series chassis stand out, which are used to install construction and logistics equipment. The high share of new dump trucks and refrigerators confirms the willingness of big business to invest in assets with maximum resource and projected fuel costs.

  1. Seasonal factor: The increase in activity in the dump trucks and flatbed trucks segment correlates with the beginning of the active construction and agricultural seasons.
  2. Fuel optimization: The price of diesel fuel (90 UAH/l) accelerates the market transition to more modern and economical models. Despite the inertial presence of old models in resales, their real economic efficiency in 2026 is approaching a critical limit.
  3. Specialization: The new car market is increasingly shifting towards highly specialized superstructures (refrigerators, municipal vehicles), which indicates the professionalization of the logistics sector.
