Electric Passenger Car Market with Mileage — June 2025 Results

In this article, we will look at two related segments that include used electric vehicles — imports (first registrations, an indicator of fleet replenishment) and domestic resales ("secondary", an indicator of the turnover of such cars within the country). Letʼs start with the first registrations of newly imported cars.

The share of "freshly driven" cars among all electric cars on the market as of June 2025 was 53.3%, that is, more than half, and, accordingly, more than the other two segments combined — sales of new and domestic resales of used electric cars. More about this in a separate review.

In total, over the past month, the Ukrainian car fleet was replenished with 4,699 BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) passenger cars with mileage.

Among the used electric cars that arrived in Ukraine in June, Tesla is again in the lead — this brand remains a symbol of electric traction for most buyers. Nissan traditionally takes second place, in particular thanks to the Leaf model, which is chosen for its affordability. Kia is also in the top three, which is rapidly gaining popularity.

Stable demand also remained for Hyundai, Volkswagen and Audi, as well as Chevrolet with the budget Bolt, which often comes to Ukraine from American auctions. Despite the wide selection, many used electric cars come from the USA, which continues to shape the specifics of the Ukrainian market.

Among individual models, the undisputed leader in June is the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 — together they account for over a thousand registrations. The Nissan Leaf, although losing ground, still remains a popular budget alternative.

In the mid-range segment, demand for Kia Niro, Hyundai Kona, and Ioniq is growing rapidly — these models are known for their reliability and low mileage. The Bolt EV, with its specifications, could be much higher on this list — but it is held back by the high prices of spare parts, in particular “auction-type” ones — headlights, fenders, hood, etc. But European electric classics like the VW e-Golf and Renault ZOE are gradually occupying their niche.

The average age of electric cars arriving in our country last month was 5 years — the lowest value among all segments of our used car market.

Electric vehicles — domestic market

As of June 2025, the share of domestic resales in the electric vehicle segment was 30.9%, and the total number of BEV passenger cars that became the subjects of purchase and sale agreements in the domestic market was 2,721 units.

In the domestic electric car market, Ukrainians are most actively reselling Tesla — it is no longer just a brand, but a kind of currency in the EV segment. Nissan traditionally holds the second position, primarily thanks to the Leaf, which often changes owners.

Volkswagen, Hyundai, and Renault also have stable demand, as do Audi and BMW — mostly used, but image-oriented cars. The popularity of Chevrolet and Kia indicates the desire of Ukrainians to combine affordability and functionality.

In the secondary market of Ukraine, electric cars do not just retain their value — they are actively changing hands. The undisputed leader among models is the Nissan Leaf, which continues to be the most popular electric car in the country. Tesla Model 3 and Model Y consistently occupy the following positions, confirming the loyalty of buyers to the brand.

An interesting battle for buyersʼ affections unfolded this time between the Tesla Model S and the Volkswagen e-Golf. Although these cars are from completely different worlds, they are often compared. One is an American electric liner with a range of 300+ km, more often "aged", the second is a compact city German with a 24 kWh battery. But the Golf has smaller dimensions, lower cost, cheaper maintenance. But the "eska", just early releases, has the words "pneuma", "tegra", which although frightening, but still it is a Tesla at the price of a "Golf", how to resist? So three hundred Ukrainian buyers face a rather philosophical question every month: what is more important — to join the club of "Tesla drivers", or to give preference to practicality and simplicity, but with a range to the next outlet of +-100 km?

Finally, we would like to add that the electric vehicle segment remains the youngest in the secondary market — the average age of cars resold last month was 6 years. This is significantly less than the overall used car market, which is now almost 16 years old.
