Someone gives flowers, someone — promises, and some — cars. In 5 months of 2025, Ukrainians did not skimp: more than 10 thousand vehicles changed owners as gifts. And this is only according to official registrations.
Most often, cars are donated — 80% of such transactions were related to them. Trucks took up 12%, semi-trailers — 3%, motorcycles — 2%. The rest — trailers and buses.
That is, 4 out of 5 gifts were cars, as befits a holiday. But there were also exotic gifts: someone received a bus, and someone a semi-trailer. What was it — a business partnership or a surprise wedding?
The most popular brands as a gift:
Among the top brands are the classics of Ukrainian auto-drinking choice:
- Volkswagen — 10.5%
- Mercedes-Benz — 7.0%
- Toyota — 7.0%
- BMW — 6.6%
- Renault — 5.4%
- Audi, Ford, Nissan, Hyundai, Skoda — 3-5% each
What does this mean? That for a birthday, it is more common to give not a “pure heart”, but a used Passat. Or an X5, if the wife (or husband) really deserves it. Why used — the average age of the vehicles given was 12 years.
Top models
The undisputed leader is the VW Passat. This car gift became the embodiment of the popular saying: "I give you reliability, tested by time, and a service book from Germany."
Here is a list of favorites:
- Volkswagen Passat
- Toyota Camry
- Skoda Octavia
- VW Golf, Touareg, Tiguan
- BMW X5
- Mazda CX-5
- Audi A4
- Nissan Rogue
That is, the segment of "adult comfort" with a hint of status prevails, rather than budget fantasy.
The most donated cars in Ukraine had classic gasoline engines — over 38% of all cases. This is the most common option, which is easy to maintain, easy to resell, and does not require additional skills or equipment. Diesel is in second place — 34%. It remains popular due to its economy on the highway and longer endurance during intensive operation. Third place was taken by versions equipped with LPG — 13.5%, as a typical “Ukrainian answer” to expensive gasoline.
Electric cars as a separate category have not yet broken into the top — they account for only 5.4% of donated cars. Together with hybrids of various types, this number grows to approximately 9%. That is, almost every tenth donated vehicle had at least a partial electric drive — and this is already a noticeable trend, although not yet a mass choice.
