On April 1, 2025 (and this is no joke), the Cabinet of Ministers approved amendments to the Road Traffic Regulations. They concern the right to use lanes for public transport.
From now on, motorcycle and moped drivers can drive in public transport lanes marked with appropriate signs and markings, but stopping (and even more so parking) on these sections of roads is not permitted for them. Only to comply with traffic regulations regarding stopping at traffic lights or traffic controllers if they are signaling a no-go, pedestrians, etc.
However, the new permit does not apply to motorcycles with a sidecar ("sidecar"), motorized strollers, and "trikes" (three-wheeled motorcycles).
We remind you that according to the traffic regulations:
- moped — a two-wheeled vehicle that has an engine with a displacement of up to 50 cc or an electric motor with a power of up to 4 kW;
- motorcycle — a two-wheeled motor vehicle with or without a sidecar, having an engine with a working volume of 50 cc or more. Scooters, motorized carts, three-wheeled and other motorized vehicles, the maximum permissible mass of which does not exceed 400 kg, are considered motorcycles;
It is also worth mentioning the rights to drive such vehicles (granted from the age of 16):
- A1 — mopeds, scooters and other two-wheeled vehicles that have an engine with a working volume of up to 50 cc or an electric motor with a power of up to 4 kW;
- A — motorcycles, including those with a sidecar, and other two-wheeled vehicles that have an engine with a working volume of 50 cc or more or an electric motor with a power of 4 kW or more;
Earlier, in 2020, similar changes were made for taxi drivers, with permission to stop to drop off and pick up passengers within public transport lanes.
