“Prygon” is the basis of the electric car segment in Ukraine. This word, familiar to motorists, refers to the import of used cars, even when the car is not actually “driven,” but is transported by sea or delivered by a car carrier. Here are the numbers that prove it: the share of “freshly driven” cars among all electric cars on the market last year amounted to 53.2%, that is, more than half, and, accordingly, more than the other two subsegments — sales of new cars and domestic resales of used electric cars.
In total, during 2024, the Ukrainian car fleet was replenished with 41,223 BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) passenger cars with mileage. This means that, in addition to the record-breaking volume of replenishment, the total contribution of the year to the replenishment of the electric vehicle fleet was a considerable 36% — that is, more than a third of all "electric vehicles" present in Ukraine arrived in 2024!
The dynamics of this part of the car market looks like this: plus 37% compared to the volumes of 2023.
We remind you that 2025 is the last year when customs clearance privileges for electric vehicles are in effect. We predict an increase in import volumes this year, as well as the possibility of queues for them and a price increase that may begin in the summer. What electric cars were most often ordered, and, accordingly, "brought" from abroad last year? Here, the tastes of Ukrainian motorists turned out to be quite clear: almost a third of them chose Tesla. Nissan is currently holding on thanks to two generations of Leaf, and hopes for the success of the Ariya crossover, but in the e-SUV group the competition is much tougher than it was at the time of the appearance of the first generation Leaf in the environment of compact hatchbacks, where it actually had no one to compete with. The third position is held by Volkswagen, which entered the group of brands with a share of over 10%.
Among the individual models that most often replenished the Ukrainian car fleet, the leadership is held by the Nissan Leaf, which last year occasionally exchanged first place with the Tesla Model 3. For a certain period, there was even a possibility that the Model Y also had certain plans for the first place. However, a different story happened with the Leaf: thanks to the low starting price for early releases of this model, it got a “second wind”, that is, it is bought as a second car for everyday use, in order to save on fuel, without getting rid of the “main” gasoline or diesel car. But the two most popular Models this time ended up quite close, noticeably breaking away from the VW e-Golf.
The average age of electric cars that arrived in our country last year was 5.5 years — the lowest value among all segments of our used car market.
