There is a record of used cars sales. What models were sold in November?

In the automotive market of Ukraine in November 2021, two records were set at once: the largest number of used cars sold on the secondary market, as well as the largest number of imported cars with mileage from abroad. Experts from the Car Research Institute named the reasons for this growth and formed a list of the most popular cars in the last month of autumn.

Despite the global crisis of the automotive industry, the shortage of new and used cars abroad and as a consequence of their rise in price, the Ukrainian car market shows excellent results. In general, in November on the secondary market Ukrainians bought 146,696 pieces. passenger cars with mileage. This is the second most successful after February 2019, when there was the first wave of "legalization" of the so-called "europlates".

Compared to the previous month (October 2021 ), the total market volume increased by 2.7%. The share of used car imports in the structure of the secondary market increased from 40.5% to 41.1%.

Compared to November 2020, the total market volume increased by 42.9%. The structure of the market also changed in favor of imports: its share increased from 32.6% to 41.1%. At the same time, the import of used cars increased by 80.4%.

Among the reasons for the peak of the secondary car market are:

1. On November 10, the preferential registration of the so-called "europlates" ended. The highest concentration of their customs clearance occurred in November. Therefore, this is one of the reasons for the record imports in the last month of autumn.
2. Imports of used cars promote activity in the domestic market. Buyers will have a choice. Some cars are brought for resale.
3. The low purchasing power of Ukrainians encourages them to buy used cars. As the Ukrainian car market has been artificially restricted for a long time, the import of used cars from abroad has been blocked at the legislative level. There was a deficit and increased demand, which remains consistently high. Buyers are satisfied with its import of used cars from abroad. However, during the three years of the new customs clearance mechanism, this could not be done. Statistics confirm this: the level of motorization in the country today is almost twice lower than the European average.

The most popular models, domestic resale

The rating of the most popular used cars in the domestic market has remained almost unchanged for several months in a row. The preferences of Ukrainians turned out to be stable. Comparing the November rating with the October one, we can see only one change: Skoda Fabia and Opel Astra changed positions in the list.

The most popular models imported from abroad

The preferences of Ukrainians when buying a used car from abroad are also stable. And here, too, there are already established trends. This can be confirmed by only one change compared to October 2021: it added two positions in the Audi A6 rating. The reason — all the same "europlates", because it was a very popular model among this category of cars.
