Used car prices in the EU: 2025 began with a decline in wholesale prices

The most recent price cut from AUTO1 Group showed a 1.5% decrease in used car prices compared to the previous month, with the index changing from 137.3 in December 2024 to 135.2 in January 2025.

Over the year, wholesale prices for used cars decreased by 4.8%, the index changed from 142.0 in January 2024 to 135.2 in January this year. However, used car prices are still 14.0% higher than before the COVID-19 pandemic.

European car dealers expect further price cuts

The decrease is in line with market expectations. According to an online survey conducted by AUTO1 among more than 7,200 European dealer partners, a majority (44.0%) believe that used car prices will decrease in 2025, while more than a third (34.6%) of respondents expect used car prices to remain stable this year and 21.4% expect prices to increase.
