Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of motorcycle registrations and identified the most popular brands in three segments: used import, domestic resale, and among new motorcycles.
Dynamics of the motorcycle market
In the segment of motorcycles at the beginning of autumn, there was an expected decrease in the pace of trading. In the end, this yearʼs high season succeeded in glory — surpassing last yearʼs results. So, in September, Ukrainians bought 6.7 thousand of all motorcycles. This is 8% more than in the same period last year, but (projected) 26.6% less than in August 2024.
Among the total number, 56.3% of motorcycles were new (imported from abroad), in quantity, this is 3,764 units.
On the domestic market, 2,297 contracts for the purchase and sale of motor vehicles were concluded, which accounted for 34.4% of the total number.
Only 9.3% of motorcycles were imported used from abroad (623 units).
We remind you that the numbers given here are obtained from the accounting of official sales agreements and the first registrations recorded by the service centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The "shadow" part of the motorcycle market (in particular, the secondary one) remains outside the scope of this review.
By individual sub-segments, the dynamics of motorcycle sales (where seasonality is very clearly expressed, and the primary importance is the year-to-year comparison) looks as follows (comparing last month to the month before it, M-M; and last month to the same month last year year, YY):
- Domestic resales: -23% MM, +18% YY
- Used imports: -22% MM, 00% YY
- New imports: -29% MM, +4% YY
The most popular motorcycles in the domestic market
In the domestic market, the Japanese brands Honda (268 sales contracts) and Yamaha (209 sales contracts) prevailed among motorcycle manufacturers in the specified period, andas well as the Ukrainian brand Geon (178 PCs).
The most popular used motorcycles brought from abroad
Imports of motorcycles with mileage continue to be held by the Japanese brands Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki. The products of these three manufacturers cover more than half of the segment, or rather 68.7% of the two-wheeled motor vehicle market.
The most popular new motorcycles
New motorcycles of Chinese manufacturers are mainly bought in Ukraine: in July, the brands Musstang (620 first registrations), Lifan (507 registrations), and Spark (467 registrations) once again became the leaders. In general, the share of Chinese products is about 80% in the market of new motorcycles.
