Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine and identified the most popular models in three segments of trucks weighing more than 3.5 tons (except tractor-trailers) : used import, domestic resale and purchase of new cars, including those converted in Ukraine.
Truck market dynamics
The market volume of trucks with a gross weight of more than 3,500 kg in September amounted to 2,000 units. This segment of the Ukrainian car market is gradually losing momentum: the given total indicator is lower by 10.1% compared to August of this year, and also lower by 21.5% compared to September 2023.
The structure of this segment is as follows: 77.5% (1581 units) — domestic resales, 9.7% (198 units) — import of used trucks, 3.9% — import of new ones, 8.9% — sales of manufactured (or converted in factory conditions) in Ukraine. The total share of new machines of this group is 12.7%.
The dynamics of individual sub-segments, the shares of which have just been given, are as follows (MM — the reporting month compared to the previous month; YY — the reporting month compared to the same month last year):
- Domestic resales: -6% MM, -27% YY
- Used import: -17% MM, -9% YY
- New imports: -15% MM, +72% YY
- Made in Ukraine: -30% MM, +8% YY
Top 10 trucks on the domestic market
Dump trucks remain the most popular type in this sub-segment, while vans and on-board versions also remain in demand.
Among individual models, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter won the first place, the KamAZ 5511 came in second, which is probably due to the intensification of agricultural works, and the Mercedes-Benz Vario came in third.
Top 10 imported trucks with mileage
Vans with hydroboards, vans, and container trucks were most often added to the Ukrainian fleet last month.

The top three newly arrived trucks look like this: Mercedes-Benz Sprinter in first place, Mercedes-Benz Atego in second place, and Iveco Daily in third place.
Top 10 new trucks
Among new trucks with a gross weight of more than 3.5 tons, the highest demand was observed for dump trucks and vans. Other types (e.g. garbage trucks or mobile cranes) were purchased individually.
Among individual models, the products of the local automotive industry are leading, or rather chassis converted by local enterprises or entire cars for special tasks.
In general, a steady decrease in demand for trucks with a gross weight of more than 3500 kg is noticeable, the same picture is observed in the adjacent segment — LCV. There, the market volumes are also decreasing every month. Which is most likely a consequence of the slowdown of business processes in the country, which leads to a decrease in the demand for transport for commercial activities.
