Experts of the Auto Market Research Institute analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine in July and identified the top types and brands in three segments of semi-trailers: import of used, domestic resale and purchase of new ones.
Dynamics of the semi-trailer market
As the segment of semi-trailer trucks continued to remain at relatively low trading volumes in July, a similar picture is observed in the related segment of semi-trailers. Over the past month, Ukrainians purchased 2,100 new and used semi-trailers (57 units more than the previous month). It by 34.9% less than in the same period last year in 2023, but by 2.8% more compared to June-2024.
By individual sub-segments, the dynamics of semi-trailer trade is as follows (comparing last month to the month before it, MM, and last month to the same month last year, YY):
- Domestic resales: +0.3% MM, -23.6% YY
- Import of used goods: +0.9% MM, -53.6% YY
- New imports: +61.1% MM, -18.5% YY
- Made in Ukraine: −66.7% М-М, −61% YY
According to the results of July , 62.4% of all semi-trailers were bought on the domestic market (1317 transactions). 566 used semi-trailers were brought from abroad, which accounted for 26.8% of the total volume.
10.8% of semi-trailers (227 units) were purchased new. Of this number, 16 were produced in Ukraine, and the remaining 211 units. were imported new from abroad.
The most popular semi-trailers on the domestic market
The largest demand on the domestic market in July remained for tipper semi-trailers. 23.6%, or 311 units, purchased such. quantitatively Container carriers (180 pcs., 13.7%) and on-board awnings (143 pcs., 10.9%) do not lose their popularity.
Tented semi-trailers (139 units, 10.6%) and refrigerators (123 units, 9.3%) also made it to the Top 5.
Among manufacturers, the German Shmitz remains the leader in the domestic market of semi-trailers. There were 22.1% or 291 units of all semi-trailers.
The second and third places were also occupied by German brands — Krone (148 units, 11.2%) and Kögel (143 units, 10.9%), respectively.
Schwarzmüller is in fourth place (64 units, 4.9%), Fruehauf is in fifth place (46 units, 3.5%).

The most popular used semi-trailers brought from abroad
During July 2024, the most frequently imported from abroad were awning semi-trailers (175 units, 30.9%), dump trucks (109 units, 19.3%) and container trucks (73 units, 12.9%).
Tented platforms (58 pcs., 10.2%) and refrigerators (49 pcs., 8.7%) also entered the top five most popular by type.

Manufacturers: the first in the list of the most popular used semi-trailers brought from abroad was once again the Shmitz brand. Its share was 36.7% (208 units).
Second place was taken by Krone products (81 units, 14.3%). Kögel is in third place (48 units, 8.5%), Schwarzmüller is in fourth place (22 units, 3.9%).
Stas closes the top five with a total of 16 units, and a share in its segment of 2.8%.

The most popular new semi-trailers
Dump trucks (70 units, 30.8%) and refrigerators (49 units, 21.6%) accounted for the majority of all new semi-trailers purchased in July.
The third place is for on-board awning versions (39 units, 17.2%), the fourth place is for awnings (27 units, 11.9%). Tanks are in fifth place (10 units, 4.4%).
The ranking of manufacturers of new semi-trailers will continue to be headed by the German Shmitz (109 units, 48%). The second place was taken by Mega (22 units, 9.7%), and the third place by Stas (19 units, 8.4%).
The fourth step in the products of the Wielton brand (17 units, 7.5%), closes the first five Bodex with a total of 5.7% and 13 semi-trailers.
