Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in July 2024, described the dynamics of the market and identified the 20 most popular new passenger cars of the month.
Dynamics of the new car market
In July, Ukrainians and local enterprises bought 6,000 new cars. This is 16% more than in June of the same year, and 15.2% more than a year ago in July 2023. We will remind that the record of trades (within the current year) was set in March (6.5 thousand), and in general, such indicators have not been seen since 2021. Therefore, the current values can be considered average statistics, and, as the numbers show, there was no "excitement" regarding the purchase of all cars from dealersʼ showrooms, which could have been provoked by the Cabinet of Ministersʼ proposal to introduce a 15% tax on the first registration of passenger cars in Ukraine.
Most of the new cars, as usual, in July ( 95%, 5729 units) were imported from abroad. The share of passenger cars manufactured in Ukraine by the method of large-unit assembly or converted from imported machine kits amounted to 5% (299 units).
Buyers of new cars were mostly individuals ( 73.5%, 4431 units), legal entities bought 1597 cars, which is a share of 26.5%.
During the past month, the largest number of new cars were registered in the city of Kyiv (2,148 units, 35.6%) and the Kyiv region (727 units, 12.1%) — which traditionally accounts for almost half of the total volume of the new passenger car market. Dnipropetrovsk (504 units, 8.4%), Odesa (398 units, 6.6%) and Lviv (355 units, 5.9%) regions are also among the leaders.
If we sum up the shares of the five leading regions, we get a value of 68.6%. That is, the lionʼs share of trades takes place precisely in these regions and the capital. However, at the same time, it should be taken into account that some cars receive a Kyiv "registration" not only because they are bought there, but also for two reasons — leasing companies, which can actually transfer vehicles to other regions, but register them at the place of their own residence. and state institutions plus private companies, which also often register their corporate parks in the capital, closer to the central offices.
The fewest new cars were registered in Kherson (5), Donetsk (9), Chernivtsi (61), Chernihiv (63) and Sumy (72) regions. The total share of these five regions will be only 3.4%. Luhansk region again falls into statistical samples with a zero result.
The most popular new cars
In July, the Toyota brand continues to hold the lead (853 units, with a share of 14.2%). BMW (633 units, 10.5%) is in second place, which is quite interesting for the Ukrainian market. The Bavarian brand moved up a notch every month, now it is confidently breathing down the back of the long-time leader of the rating.

The fourth place belongs to Volkswagen (360 units, 6%), and Nissan closes the top five with a total of 303 cars and a share of 5%.
The first position in the rating of individual models of new passenger cars is held by the Toyota RAV4 crossover (375 units), which is not too far from the leader of previous periods — Renault Duster (343 units), which this time got the second place.
The third position is held by the Honda M-NV crossover (239 units), the fourth by the Toyota Camry sedan (140 units).
Fifth — another representative of the popular SUV group — Mazda CX-5, which this time was chosen by 150 buyers.
It is interesting that the rapid "career" of the Chinese electric crossover Volkswagen ID.4 suddenly came to an end — according to the results of last month, it did not even enter the top five, occupying the "place at the exit" at number 17, instead on 12 positions, once again improving the result is a rather promising competitor of "Aidishka" — Nissan Ariya.

Among the new passenger cars manufactured or converted in Ukraine and registered in July (quantitatively, they are included in the overall rating), the most popular are Skoda Kodiaq (114 units) and Skoda Karoq (78 units), which are produced at the Transcarpathian Evrocar plant. The following places were divided among themselves by passenger cars converted by local enterprises for various special purposes.
