The motorcycle market is in full swing! What did Ukrainians buy in June?

Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of motorcycle registrations in June and identified the most popular models in three segments: import of used, domestic resale and purchase of new motorcycles.

Dynamics of the motorcycle market

The motorcycle segment is already at the peak of its high season, statistically even surpassing last yearʼs figures. In June, Ukrainians bought 9 thousand of all motorcycles. This is 11.1% more than in the same period last year, and 21.5% more than in May 2024.

Among the total number, 55.5% of motorcycles were new (imported from abroad), which is 5,019 units. Usually, in the motorcycle segment, the majority of deals are sales of new vehicles, but over the past few months, this "tradition" has been broken, and it is only now that the share of new two-wheelers has reached more than half of the market.

On the domestic market, 3,257 contracts for the purchase and sale of motorcycle equipment were concluded, which accounted for 36% of the total number.

Only 8.4% of motorcycles were imported used from abroad (763 units).

We remind you that the numbers given here are obtained from the accounting of official sales agreements and first registrations. The "shadow" part of the motorcycle market (in particular, the secondary market) remains outside the scope of this review. According to IDA experts, it can be quite significant — even equal to, or even greater than, the official part.

By individual sub-segments, the dynamics of motorcycle sales (where seasonality is very clearly expressed, and the primary importance is the year-to-year comparison) looks as follows (comparing last month to the month before it, M-M; and last month to the same month last year year, YY):

• Domestic resales: +2.3% MM, +21.1% YY
• Used import: +20.2% MM, -1.3% YY
• New imports: +38.6% MM, +7.4% YY

The average age of motorcycles on the market (as of June) was 11.3 years for those resold domestically and 13.2 years for motorcycles submitted for first registration after customs clearance.

The most popular motorcycles in the domestic market

In the domestic market, the Japanese brands Honda and Yamaha, as well as the Chinese Geon, another representative of the Japanese motorcycle industry Suzuki, and again the Chinese brand Lifan dominated the domestic market among motorcycle manufacturers. These five manufacturers occupy 42.8% of the market in the segment.

On the domestic market, sales contracts were most often concluded in May for Lifan LF (177 units), Loncin LX (124 units), and Spark SP-series (99 units).

The most popular used motorcycles brought from abroad

Imports of motorcycles with mileage continue to be held by the Japanese brands Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki and the American Harley-Davidson. The products of these five manufacturers cover 84.8% of the "moto" market (that is, almost all) imports.

Among individual models, Honda CB (41 units), Kawasaki Ninja (27 units), Suzuki Address (23 units), Yamaha MT (18 units) and Suzuki GSX series (17 units) were most often applied for the first state registration.

The most popular new motorcycles

In Ukraine, they mainly buy new motorcycles from Chinese manufacturers: in June , Spark, Lifan and Musstang brands once again became the leaders. In general, the share of Chinese products is more than 73% in the market of new motorcycles.

Among the new models of motorcycles in Ukraine , the Spark SP-series holds the lead (710 units), the Musstang MT (538 units) took second place, and the Lifan LF (390 units) took third place (also without changes compared to previous periods).

Forte FT (260 units) and Loncin LX-series (204 units) are also among the top five new bikes.
