Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in June 2024, described the market dynamics and determined the 20 most popular new cars of the month.
Dynamics of the new car market
In June, Ukrainians and local enterprises purchased 5,200 new cars. This is 11% less than in May of the same year, and 8.6% less than in June 2023. After two months of volume growth, with a record 6,500 in March (not seen since 2021), the new passenger car market first returned to monthly averages, then slowed slightly.
Most of the new cars, as usual, in June ( 95.8%, 4978 units) were imported from abroad. The share of passenger cars manufactured in Ukraine by the method of large-unit assembly or converted from imported machine kits amounted to 4.2% (218 units).
Buyers of new cars were mostly individuals ( 66.9%, 3477 units), legal entities bought 1719 cars, which is a share of 33.1%.
During the past month, the most new cars were registered in the city of Kyiv (2,059 units, 39.6%) and the Kyiv region (618 units, 11.9%) — which traditionally accounts for more than half of the total volume of the new passenger car market. Also in the leaders are Dnipropetrovsk (376 units, 7.2%), Lviv (316 units, 6.1%) and Odesa (277 units, 5.3%) regions.
If we sum up the shares of the five leading regions, we get a value of 70.1%. That is, the lionʼs share of trades takes place precisely in these regions (and the capital). However, at the same time, it should be taken into account that some cars receive a Kyiv "registration" not only because they are bought there, but also for two reasons — leasing companies, which can actually transfer vehicles to other regions, but register them at the place of their own residence. and state institutions plus private companies, which also often register their corporate parks in the capital, closer to the central offices.
The fewest new cars were registered in Kherson (2), Donetsk (12), Sumy (51), Ternopil (55), and Chernihiv (59) regions. The total share of these five regions will be only 3.4%. Luhansk region again falls into statistical samples with a zero result.
The most popular new cars
In June, the Toyota brand continued to hold the lead (815 units, with a share of 15.7%). BMW (545 units, 10.5%) is in second place, which is quite interesting for the Ukrainian market. The Bavarian mark moved up a notch every month, now closely approaching the long-time leader of the rating.

The fourth place belongs to Citroen (304 units, 5.9%), the top five is closed by Volkswagen with a total of 291 passenger cars and a share of 5.6%.
The first position in the rating of individual models of new passenger cars is held by the Toyota RAV4 crossover (411 units), noticeably breaking away from the leader of the previous periods, Renault Duster (344 units), which in this case got the second place.
The third position belongs to Citroen Berlingo (198 units), the fourth — to Honda M-NV (140 units).
The fifth is the Toyota Camry sedan, which this time was chosen by 130 buyers. It is interesting that the rapid "career" of the Chinese electric crossover Volkswagen ID.4 suddenly ended — according to the results of last month, it did not even enter the top five, taking the "place at the exit" at number 19.

Among the new passenger cars manufactured or converted in Ukraine and registered in June (quantitatively, they are included in the general rating), the five most popular are Skoda Kodiaq (57 units) and Skoda Karoq (47 units), which are produced at the Zakarpattia plant " Eurocar". Toyota RAV4 hybrid crossover (26 units) converted by a corporate special order by one of the local enterprises is the third in the local standings.
