Experts of the Auto Market Research Institute analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine in May and identified the Top types and brands in three segments of semi-trailers: import of used, domestic resale and purchase of new ones.
Dynamics of the semi-trailer market
In contrast to the segment of semi-trailer trucks, where the total volume increased, in May the activity of the market regarding the trade of semi-trailers did not change much. During the past month, Ukrainians purchased 2,700 new and used semi-trailers. It by 15.1% less than in the same period last year in 2023, but by 3.3% more than in April 2024.
By individual sub-segments, the dynamics of semi-trailer trade is as follows (comparing last month to the previous month, MM, and last month to the same month last year, YY):
- Domestic resales: +20.8% MM, +7.6% YY
- Used imports: -15.5% MM, -32.9% YY
- New imports: -32.7% MM, -59.2% YY
- Made in Ukraine: −38.1% М-М, −74% YY
According to the results of May , 64.5% of all semi-trailers were bought on the domestic market(1765 agreements).Brought from abroad852used semi-trailers, which accounted for 31.1% of the total number.
4.4% of semi-trailers (120 units) were purchased new. Of this number, 13 were produced in Ukraine, and the remaining 107 units. were imported new from abroad.
The most popular semi-trailers on the domestic market
The highest demand on the domestic market in May was observed for tipper semi-trailers. 32.5%, or 574 units, purchased these. quantitatively Container carriers (11.6%, 205 units) and on-board awnings (9.7%, 171 units) do not lose their popularity.
Tented versions (8.7%, 154 units) and platforms (131 units, 7.4%) also made it to the Top 5.
Among manufacturers, the German Shmitz remains the leader in the domestic market of semi-trailers. Among all semi-trailers, they were 18.2% (322 units).
The second and third places were also occupied by German brands — Krone (183 units, 10.4%) and Koegel (180 units, 10.2%), respectively.
Austrian Schwarzmuller is in fourth place (84 units, 4.8%), Polish Bodex is in fifth place (81 units, 4.6%).

The most popular used semi-trailers brought from abroad
During May 2024, the most frequently imported semi-trailers (39.2%, 334 units), refrigerators (13.7%, 117 units) and dump trucks (12.1%, 103 units) were imported from abroad.
Tented platforms (9%, 77 pcs.) and tanks (5.6%, 48 pcs.) also entered the top five most popular by type.

Manufacturers: the Shmitz brand once again topped the list of the most popular used semi-trailers imported from abroad. Its share was 40.6% (346 units).
Koegel products took second place (110 units, 12.9%). Krone was in third place (103 units, 12.1%), Schwarzmueller was in fourth place (40 units, 4.7%).
Wielton closes the top five with a total of 19 units, and a share in its segment of 2.2%.

The most popular new semi-trailers
Dump trucks (41 units, 34.2%) and refrigerators (20 units, 16.7%) accounted for the majority of all new semi-trailers purchased in May.
Awning semi-trailers in their market segment occupied 15% (18 units), platforms were sold in the amount of 12 units. which is a share of 10%, respectively, this brings the mentioned brands to the third and fourth place. The fifth number in the list by types belongs to tanks for dangerous goods (7 pcs., 5.8%).
The German Shmitz (30.8%, 37 units) will continue to lead the rating of manufacturers of new semi-trailers. The second place was taken by Wielton (15 units, 12.5%), and the third place by Stas (8.3%, 10 units).
The fourth step in the products of the Mega brand (10 units, 8.3%), closes the first five Bodex with a total of 6.7% and 8 semi-trailers.
