What used cars were bought most often on the domestic market? Results of May
Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of passenger car registrations and identified the Top-20 most popular used models that were bought (and reissued) in Ukraine in May.
In the domestic market during May, service centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs registered 162,200 agreements for the sale of used cars. This is almost double, 90.7% more than in May 2023, and 29.6% more than in April 2024. In general, this is an absolute quantitative record for the domestic market, at least for the past 10 years.
However, before proceeding to a detailed review of this segment of the car market, it is worth noting that this time the picture of brands and models may not fully correspond to reality. Because, as analysts of the Auto Market Research Institute point out, there is a high probability that about 50% of deals were made between family members or relatives. Ukrainians are encouraged to take such actions by the new mobilization laws that have entered into force, and which contain a provision regarding the potential seizure of cars from individuals for defense purposes, if such a person owns more than one vehicle.
Therefore, it should be assumed that in May the number of actual sales remained at the level of previous months, that is, about 80...85 thousand transactions, and the market picture may be changed to some extent by the so-called "second cars in the family", which were most often reissued on other persons to remove "extra" vehicles.
