What truck tractors do Ukrainian carriers choose? Results of April

Experts of the Institute of Auto Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine during April and identified the top models in three segments of semi-trailer trucks: import of used vehicles, domestic resale and purchase of new ones.

Dynamics of the truck tractor market

In April 2024, Ukrainians purchased a total of 2.5 thousand new and used truck tractors, for 22 pcs. more than a month earlier. This indicator is 13.7% lower than in the same period of 2023, and 0.9% higher than sales in March 2024.

The share of domestic sales was 55.4%, import of used truck tractors was 37.4%.The total share of "trucks" with mileage was 92.8%.

7.2% of truck tractors were purchased new, which in quantitative terms equals 179 units of such equipment.

During 2023, demand for truck tractors gradually decreased, and only in January 2024 there was some increase in activity in this segment. The lowest volume of tractor-trailer sales in 12 months was recorded last year in December (2.1 thousand units). There were several reasons for this: partial (close to full) satisfaction of the needs of carriers (primarily international) in such vehicles, which were in short supply a year ago, and they were actively bought, because after the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, the main transport for export-import of goods became automotive. Blocking of borders with several countries by so-called "activist farmers" also left their mark on the business of international carriers, which, unfortunately, resumed after a short pause. Currently, the pace of trading in this segment is at a relatively low (at the same time stable) level.

The most popular tractors on the domestic market

DAF XF confidently remains the most popular tractor unit on the domestic market in Ukraine. Agreements for the purchase and sale of such models were concluded in 366 units. Volvo FH is second in number, 183 units, MAN TGX is third, 173 units.

Fourth in the rating of "trucks" with a mileage of Renault Magnum (127 units), fifth — Renault Premum (111 units).

The most popular used tractors imported from abroad

In April , MAN TGX, which added 268 vehicles to our fleet, won the first place among the "driven" tractors. In second place on the list is DAF XF with a summary251 first registration.

The Volvo FH (136 units) will continue to occupy the third place, and the Scania R-Series (100 units) will occupy the fourth place. Rounding out the top five are Mercedes-Benz Actros (43 units).

Among the new models of semi-trailer trucks, Ukrainian hauliers most often bought the Scania R-Series (63 units).

The second place in this category is occupied by MAN TGX with a total of 25 cars. The third position with a similar result (23 units) in Volvo FH.

The fourth in the ranking of new tractor units is DAF XF (17 units), the fifth is Scania S-Series (14 units).
