The high season of the motorcycle market is getting closer. What did Ukrainians buy in March?

Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of motorcycle registrations in March and identified the most popular models in three segments: import of used, domestic resale and purchase of new motorcycles.

Dynamics of the motorcycle market

The motorcycle segment is getting closer to its high season — without even looking at the numbers, just a cursory look at the chart, itʼs quite easy to come to this conclusion.

Now, actually, about the numbers: in March, Ukrainians bought 6.2 thousand of all motorcycles. This is significantly more (by 40.6%) than in the same period last year, and also almost twice as much, by 87.7%, than in February 2024.

Among the total number, 47.7% of motorcycles were new (imported from abroad), which is 2,956 units. Usually, in the motor vehicle segment, the majority of deals are sales of new vehicles, but this time (as in January and February), "Tuesday" still prevails. Probably, in the coming months, it is the new bikes that will seize the initiative, as it was observed in previous years.

On the domestic market, 2,656 motor vehicle purchase and sale agreements were concluded, which accounted for 47.7% of the total number.

Only 9.4% of motorcycles were imported used from abroad (584 units).

We remind you that the numbers given here are obtained from the accounting of official sales agreements and first registrations. The "shadow" part of the motorcycle market (in particular, the secondary one) remains outside the scope of this review. According to IDA experts, it can be quite significant — even equal to, or even greater than, the official part.

The average age of motorcycles on the market (as of March) was 12 years for those resold domestically and 12.8 years for motorcycles submitted for first registration after customs clearance.

The most popular motorcycles in the domestic market

In the domestic market, the Japanese brands Honda and Yamaha, as well as the Geon brand, which positions itself as a Ukrainian engineering company, prevailed among motorcycle manufacturers in the specified period.

On the domestic market, sales contracts were most often concluded in March for Lifan LF (120 units), Loncin LX (96 units), and Honda CB (86 units).

The most popular used motorcycles brought from abroad

In the import segment, there were again not enough manufacturers to make up the classic twenty most popular. However, the situation will soon change, because we are approaching the peak of the season in the segment. In general, the import of motorcycles with mileage continues to be held by the Japanese brands Yamaha, Honda and Kawasaki. The products of these three manufacturers cover more than 60% of the import "moto" market.

Among individual models, Kawasaki Ninja (26 units), Honda CB (21 units) and Honda CBR (18 units) were most often submitted for the first state registration.

The most popular new motorcycles

New motorcycles of Chinese manufacturers are mainly bought in Ukraine: in March, the brands Musstang, Spark and Lifan once again became the leaders.

Among the new models of motorcycles in Ukraine, the Spark SP series (396 units) holds the lead, the Musstang MT (368 units) took the second place, and the Lifan LF (252 units) took the third place (also without changes compared to previous periods).
