The market of semi-trailers for vans is trying to gain momentum. What types and brands did you buy in March?

Experts of the Auto Market Research Institute analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine in March and determined the top types and brands in three segments of semi-trailers: import of used, domestic resale and purchase of new ones.

Dynamics of the semi-trailer market

As in the segment of semi-trailer trucks, the activity of the market in the trade of semi-trailers for them did not change much in March. During March 2024, Ukrainians purchased 2.7 thousand new and used semi-trailers. It   by a significant 30.1% less than in the same period last year in 2023, but by 1.6% more than in February 2024. Although the increase is insignificant, after the "slump" in December, this trend rather indicates a gradual increase in trading volumes.

According to the results of March , 56.7% of all semi-trailers were bought on the domestic market (1.5 thousand transactions). 943 used semi-trailers were brought from abroad, which accounted for 34.8% of the total number.

8.5% of semi-trailers were purchased new(231 pcs.). Of this number, 50 were produced in Ukraine, and the remaining 181 units. were imported new from abroad.

The most popular semi-trailers on the domestic market

The highest demand on the domestic market in March was observed for tipper semi-trailers. 21.5%, or 331 units, bought these. quantitatively Flatbed semi-trailers ( 14%, 216 units) and container trucks ( 10.7%, 165 units) do not lose their popularity.

Tented ( 10.3%, 158 units) and flatbed semi-trailers (131 units, 8.5% ) also made it to the Top-5.

Among manufacturers, the German Shmitz remains the leader in the domestic market of semi-trailers. Among all semi-trailers, they were 21.7% (334 units).

The second and third places were also occupied by German brands — Krone (181 units, 11.8% ) and Koegel (167 units, 10.8% ), respectively.

Austrian Schwarzmuller is in fourth place (86 units, 5.6% ), and Fruehauf is in fifth place (42 units, 2.7% ).

The most popular used semi-trailers brought from abroad

During March 2024, the most frequently imported from abroad were awning semi-trailers( 37.4%, 353 units), dump trucks ( 13.6%, 137 units) and refrigerators ( 13.1%, 124 units).

Tented platforms ( 12.5%, 118 pcs.) and container carriers ( 5.1%, 48 pcs.) also entered the top five most popular by type.

Manufacturers: the first in the list of the most popular used semi-trailers brought from abroad was the Shmitz brand. Its share was 42.2% (398 units).

Second place was taken by Krone products (110 units, 11.7% ). Koegel was in third place (93 units, 9.9% ), and Schwarzmueller was in fourth place (53 units, 5.6% ).

Fruehauf closes the top five (21 units, 2.2% ).

The most popular new semi-trailers

Dump trucks (55 units, 23.8% ) and refrigerators (54 units, 23.4% ) accounted for the majority of all new semi-trailers purchased in March.

Awning semi-trailers in their market segment occupied 14.3% (33 units), tanks for dangerous goods were sold in the amount of 32 units. (share — 13.9% ), taking the third and fourth places, respectively. The fifth number in the list by types belongs to tanks (14 units, 6.1% ).

The rating of manufacturers of new semi-trailers will continue to be headed by the German Shmitz ( 37.7%, 87 units). The second place was taken by Everlast (33 units, 14.3% ), and the third place by Mega ( 10.4%, 24 units).

The fourth step in the products of the brand Wielton (16 units, 6.9% ), closes the first five Krone with a total of 3.9% and 9 semi-trailers.
