Where most used cars are registered: rating of regions of Ukraine

Analytics

From January to August 2021, Ukrainians bought 584.5 thousand used cars in the domestic market. Another 311.2 thousand cars with mileage were brought from abroad. Experts from the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed in which areas the most vehicles were bought in 2021, determined their market share and made a rating.

The analytics is based on the statistics of registration operations of service centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. According to the current Ukrainian legislation, you can get the service in any SC, regardless of the place of registration of the buyer. A person who buys a car, for example, in Kyiv, but lives in Lviv, can easily register a car in the capital. At the same time, until March 2021, the car was assigned a region code according to the place of registration of the new owner (ie, in Kyiv it was possible to obtain the "Lviv" region code "VS"). Today, the region code is determined by the place of the transaction. Therefore, buying a car in Kiev, you will receive the capitalʼs "KA" letters in the license plate, regardless of the registered place of residence.

Thus, these statistics will show the activity in the regions by the number of official registrations in the Service Centers. After all, they could buy a car in another region and vice versa — they could register the car in the region where they bought it. This is often the case with "freshly imported" used cars from abroad.

DOMESTIC SALES

The largest resale of used cars from January to August 2021 was registered in Kyiv: 80.7 thousand units, which is 13.8% of the total number of purchase and sale agreements concluded in Ukraine during this period.

In second place — Dnipropetrovsk region (53.1 thousand units) with a share of 9.1%. The third place is occupied by Kyiv region (51.4 thousand units) and a share of 8.8%. Interestingly, in total, Kyiv and Kyiv region account for almost a quarter (22.6%) of registered resale transactions with mileage.

The lowest car sales were registered in Luhansk (8.3 thousand units, share 1.4%), Volyn region (8.9 thousand units, 1.5% share) and Kirovohrad region (11.3 thousand units, share) 1.9%) areas.
