Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in February 2024, described the market dynamics and identified the 20 most popular new passenger cars of the month.
Dynamics of the new car market
In February, Ukrainians bought 5,900 new cars. This is 25.1% more than in January of the same year, and by weight 62.3% more than in February 2023. After a gradual slow "sag" (which can be seen in the diagram), the market of new passenger cars unexpectedly showed a significant increase in volumes.
The majority of new passenger cars in February ( 95.9%, 5,663 units) were imported from abroad. The share of passenger cars manufactured in Ukraine by the method of large-unit assembly or converted from imported machine kits amounted to 4.1% (243 units).
Buyers of new cars were mostly individuals (64.1%, 3783 units), legal entities bought 2132 cars (35.4%).
Last month, the largest number of new cars were registered in the city of Kyiv (2,353 units, 39.8%) and the Kyiv region (643 units, 10.9%) — which traditionally accounts for more than half of the total volume of the new passenger car market. Also in the leaders are Dnipropetrovsk (430 units, 7.3%), Lviv (339 units, 5.7%) and Odesa (337 units, 5.7%) regions.
The fewest new cars were registered in Kherson (8 units), Donetsk (19 units), Volyn (54 units), Chernivtsi (54 units) and Rivne (60 units) regions. Luhansk region again falls into statistical samples with a zero result.
The most popular new cars
Most often, in February, as in previous months, buyers of new cars chose Toyota (783 units, 13.3%). The second place belongs to Renault (706 units, 12%), thanks to the successful auction of "Duster".
In third position, with a small margin, is Volkswagen (507 units, 8.6%), followed by Skoda with a small margin (501 units, 8.5%). Peugeot closes the top five with a result of 337 cars and a share of 5.7%.
The Renault Duster crossover (604 units), designed for the general market, once again won the first position in the rating of new cars.
The second place behind another crossover is the Toyota RAV4 (321 units), after which again the representative of the Volkswagen ID.4 SUV family (271 units), and here it is worth noting that this is an electric model that made it to the top three most popular new passenger cars. On the fourth step is the Peugeot 301 (203 units), which we have not seen in these lists for quite some time. Fifth place in Skoda Scala (173 units).

It is interesting that every time in the rating of new passenger cars, in addition to the tendency to increase the share of crossovers, another one emerges — an increase in the number of electric cars. In particular, according to the results of February, only 4 such models entered the Top-20 — Volkswagen ID.4, BYD Song, Honda e:NS1 and Nissan Ariya.
Among the new passenger cars manufactured or converted in Ukraine and registered in February, the most popular was the Skoda Kodiaq crossover (98 units), which are manufactured at the Transcarpathian Evrokar plant, the second most popular product of the same plant is the Skoda Karoq (55 units .), the third model in this list is a Toyota Corolla (4 units), most likely converted into a special purpose vehicle.
