Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine in October and identified the top models in three segments of trucks weighing more than 3.5 tons (except tractor-trailers): used import, domestic resale and purchase of new cars, including those converted in Ukraine .
Truck market dynamics
In October, Ukrainians purchased 2,400 trucks with a gross weight of more than 3.5 tons (excluding tractors). This is 50% more than in the same period last year, and 7.7% less than in September 2023. That is, after the August sales peak, the demand for trucks continues to decline.
Most of the trucks were purchased on the domestic market: 82.6% (2 thousand units). Used 9.4% of trucks (229 units) were brought from abroad.
New trucks were purchased last month as usual: 83 imported and 114 converted in Ukraine (a total of 197 units, 8.1% ).
The most popular trucks in the domestic market
Dump trucks (547 units), vans (442 units), flatbeds (198 units), platforms (97 units) and refrigerated vans (92 units) remain the most popular in the domestic market.
For many months in a row, trucks based on Mercedes-Benz T1/T2 remain the leader of domestic resales. In October, an agreement was reached regarding these140 purchase and sale agreements. Despite the fact that these models were discontinued more than 20 years ago, Ukrainians actively buy them, primarily due to the difficult economic situation and the inability to purchase a newer car. The platform of these models is used for various superstructures, additional attachment equipment is installed and converted for special needs, despite their respectable age.
In second place is the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (81 deals), which is also used as a platform for various add-ons. The third step went to a car whose factory no longer exists, but its products are still in operation — ZIL-130 (73 units).
The fourth place was taken by KamAZ-5511 (72 deals), and the top 5 most popular Mercedes-Benz Atego trucks (71 deals) close.

Again, 9 of the 20 most popular trucks were models of the Russian-Soviet automobile industry. At the same time, the average age of trucks weighing more than 3.5 tons sold on the domestic market in October 2023 was 20.2 years, 4.3 years less than last month. However, since the volume of trades in this segment is relatively small, it is impossible to fix the trend of "aging" or "rejuvenation" of the truck fleet. In addition, due to low purchasing power, it is difficult to buy a new car, and it is difficult to bring a used one from abroad due to legal restrictions: there is a restriction of the environmental standard not lower than "Euro-5", and the excise duty grid is created in such a way that it is economically expedient to import only old trucks up to 5 years
