Truck sales in May increased by a third. What models did you buy?

Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine in May and identified the top models in three segments of trucks weighing more than 3.5 tons (except tractor-trailers): used import, domestic resale and purchase of new cars, including those converted in Ukraine .

Truck market dynamics

In May, Ukrainians purchased 2,200 trucks with a gross weight of more than 3.5 tons (excluding tractors). This is 29.4% more than in the same period last year and 4.8% more than in April 2023.

Most of the trucks in April were purchased on the domestic market: 82.3% (1.8 thousand units). Used 8.5% of trucks (182 units) were brought from abroad.

More new trucks were purchased in May: 50 imported and 148 converted in Ukraine (total 198 units, 9.2% ). This indicator also turned out to be a record — as in the LCV segment.

The most popular trucks in the domestic market

In May, dump trucks (453 units), vans (390 units), flatbed trucks (164 units), platforms (98 units) and on-board awnings (96 units) were most in demand on the domestic market.

For many months in a row, trucks based on Mercedes-Benz T1/T2 remain the leader of domestic resales. In May, an agreement was reached regarding these122 purchase and sale agreements. Despite the fact that these models were discontinued more than 20 years ago, Ukrainians actively buy them, primarily due to the difficult economic situation and the inability to purchase a newer car.

In second place is the popular Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (81 deals), which is also used as a platform for various cargo superstructures. The third place was taken by Mercedes-Benz Atego (73 deals), and the fourth place by KamAZ 5511 (65 deals). Rounding out the top 5 most popular trucks in May is the MAN L2000 (62 pcs.)

It is noteworthy that 7 of the 15 most popular trucks were models of the Russian-Soviet automobile industry. At the same time, the average age of trucks weighing more than 3.5 tons sold on the domestic market in May 2023 was 23.7 years.

The most popular used trucks brought from abroad

Vans with hydroboards (49 units), vans (25 units) and container trucks (19 units) were most often brought from abroad in April. Refrigerated vans (15 units) and refrigerated vans with hydroboards (11 units) were also popular. pc.).

In May, the used Mercedes-Benz Atego returned to   the place of the leader in the segment of imported used trucks with a total weight of more than 3.5 tons — 31 of them were brought. The second place was taken by MAN TGL (25 units), the same number of used Mercedes-Benz Sprinters were imported.

Fourth place was taken by Iveco Daily (19 units), and fifth place by MAN TGX (10 units).

The most popular new trucks

Among new imported cars, new cargo vans (29 units), dump trucks (10 units) and concrete mixers (5 units) were registered for the first time in May. Also, 2 imported container carriers and 2 mobile cranes received license plates for the first time.

The most popular new truck in May was the Renault Master (15 units). The second place was taken by Scania P-Series (10 units), and the third place by Iveco Daily (6 units).

Among the converted trucks weighing more than 3.5 tons in Ukraine, the most popular in May were vans (44 units), emergency repair trucks (18 units) and dump trucks (15 units). On-board awnings (11 pcs.) and refrigerators (9 pcs.) were also popular.

The leaders were Reform 0405032G (17 units), Reform 0201022G (van based on Citroen Jumper, 13 units), and SKS FT (van based on Ford Transit, 10 units).
