Where and how much were used cars brought in in March? Analytics

Experts of the Car Market Research Institute analyzed import statistics in March and determined from which countries Ukrainians imported used cars, their average value, and how much money they spent on cars from abroad.

Cars from Europe dominate

In March, 14,500 used cars were brought to Ukraine. Of them, 75% (10.9 thousand) were brought from the countries of the European Union, another 21% — from the countries of America (3 thousand). 2 % of cars (347 units) were exported from Great Britain, 1% (134 units) from China ; 1% of used cars each came from China (134 units) and South Korea (96 units). Other regions of the world took the rest.

If we analyze the trends of buying used cars from abroad in terms of countries, and not regions in general, Poland was in first place during March (23%, 3.3 thousand). The second most popular place was taken by Germany (20.3%, 3 thousand). The third step with the same share was occupied by the USA (20.3%, 2.9 thousand).

Cars were also actively exported to Ukraine from Lithuania (4.8%, 703 units) and the Netherlands (4.3%, 620 units).

How much money did you spend on used cars from abroad?

In March, Ukrainians bought used cars abroad with a total customs value of 3.3 billion hryvnias. According to todayʼs official currency exchange rate, this is about $79 million.

Most of the funds were spent on the purchase of cars from the USA ( 1.1 billion hryvnias). Poland took second place. Cars exported from this country during March cost Ukrainians 689.2 million hryvnias. Germany took third place with a total customs value of 429.8 million hryvnias for used cars imported from there.

Used cars from China took fourth place (146.9 million UAH). Norway closes the top five (129.6 million hryvnias).

How much do used cars from abroad cost?

The main trend of Ukrainian imports remains unchanged: affordable cars worth $1-2 thousand have the greatest demand among Ukrainians. According to the results of March, there were 32.8% of the total number of those cleared through customs.

In general, 62.3% of all imported used cars in March cost less than $5,000, and 82.9% cost less than $10,000.

The average price of an imported car with mileage in March was $6,287. This is 4.2% less than in February.

In which countries are the cheapest cars?

In March, used cars brought by Ukrainians from China turned out to be the most expensive. Their average cost was $30.2 thousand. Hungary was in second place (average cost $16.1 thousand), and Georgia was in third place ($13.7 thousand). Also, the average price was quite high in cars from Slovenia ( $11.8 thousand) and South Korea ( $10.7 thousand).

Used cars from Latvia ($2.7 thousand), Great Britain ($3.2 thousand) and Finland ($3.2 thousand) had the lowest average customs value.
