Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in the first month of 2023, described the market dynamics and identified the 15 most popular new passenger cars in February.
Dynamics of the new car market
In February, Ukrainians bought more than 3,600 new passenger cars. This is 32.7% less than in February 2022 and 4.7% less than in January 2023.
Most of the new cars in February ( 90.5%, 3,295 units) were imported from abroad. The share of passenger cars manufactured in Ukraine by the method of large-unit assembly was 9.5% (345 units).
In February, the most new cars were registered in Kyiv (1,120 units) and Kyiv region (477 units), as well as Dnipropetrovsk (344 units), Odesa (246 units), and Lviv (205 units) and regions.
The fewest new cars were registered for the first time in Luhansk (4 units) , Kherson (10 units), Donetsk (11 units) , Chernihiv (24 units)and Sumy (37 units) regions.
The most popular new imported cars
Most often, in February, when buying a new car, Ukrainians chose the Toyota brand (442 units, 12.1%). The second place was taken by the Renault brand (401 units, 11%).
Volkswagen rose to third place (316 units, 8.7%), and BMW (274 units, 7.5%) to fourth place. Skoda closes the top five (269 units, 7.4%).
Among the models in the second month of 2023, the Renault Duster (340 units) became the sales leader, as in January. The second was Volkswagen ID.4 (120 units), climbing two steps.
Suzuki Vitara (120 units) remained in third place. Mazda CX-5 unexpectedly ended up in fourth place (+7 positions, 108 units).
Rounding out the top five is the Hyundai Tucson (+3 positions, 101 units).
The trend of Ukrainiansʼ love for new SUVs and crossovers is only growing: among the 15 most popular models in February, 14 units (all except Toyota Corolla ) belong to these classes.

Among the new passenger cars assembled in Ukraine, Skoda cars were the most purchased in February (138 units in total): Kodiaq (80 units), Karoq (53 units) and SuperB (5 units).
