Domestic resales: "Tsyfra" reaches more and more motorists

The most interesting trend in the domestic market is the final consolidation of the Diya service as the main platform for car re-registration.

  • Digital leadership: 30.5% (24,430) of all transactions were processed through Diya. This is actually the largest “virtual region” in Ukraine, surpassing Kyiv in terms of volume.
  • Traditional leaders: Among physical locations, Kyiv (9.2%) holds the lead, followed by Dnipropetrovsk (6%) and Odessa (4.7%) regions.
  • The front-line Donetsk and Kherson regions are at the bottom of the list; for obvious reasons, the fewest transactions were registered there.

The domestic market is becoming increasingly “digital.” Buyers choose the speed and convenience of digital service, bypassing the need to physically visit service centers whenever possible.

Import of used cars: Western Gate

The geography of "freshly imported" cars is expectedly tied to logistics routes from Europe and large hubs.

  • Western belt: Lviv region (13.2%) firmly holds the status of the countryʼs main importer. Together with Rivne (7.5%) and Volyn (8%) regions, they form a powerful cluster where the main used car markets are concentrated.
  • Capital demand: Kyiv ranks second (11%), being the main consumer of imported transport.
  • Maritime hub: Odessa region (5.6%) closes the top four — even despite the temporary suspension of port operations, a significant number of car services and dealers that dealt with cars from abroad until 2022 continue to operate in the auto business in this region.

New cars

In the new car segment, the largest number of first registrations of new passenger cars traditionally took place in the capital — 1,837, which is a solid share of 38.5%.

A separate group, as seen in the diagram, is represented by the Odessa, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Lviv, and Kyiv regions — all of them closed the month with a result of over 200 to almost 400 new passenger cars.

The fewest first registrations occurred in Donetsk and Kherson regions due to the security situation.

Expert opinion

Stanislav Buchatsky, Head of the Institute for Car Market Research:

"Regional statistics for January are a mirror of economic activity. We see how the Action takes on the lionʼs share of domestic deals, unloading physical service centers. We also see how the activity of regions saturated with automotive businesses is holding up — even with the change in logistics, local entrepreneurs continue to work, in particular in Odessa."
