Car market activity by region. January 2025

Domestic resales: "Tsyfra" reaches more and more motorists

The most interesting trend in the domestic market is the final consolidation of the Diya service as the main platform for car re-registration.

  • Digital leadership: $37.54% (1,337) of all transactions were processed through Diya. This is actually the largest “virtual region” in Ukraine, four times ahead of Kyiv in terms of volume.
  • Traditional leaders: Among physical locations , Kyiv is the leader ($8.82%), followed by Lviv (6.77%) and Dnipropetrovsk (5.08%) regions.
  • South and East: Odessa (4.8%) and Kharkiv (3.71%) regions close the top five active regions.

The domestic market is becoming increasingly “digital.” Buyers choose the speed and convenience of digital service, bypassing the need to physically visit service centers whenever possible.

Import of used cars: Western Gate

The geography of "freshly imported" cars is expectedly tied to logistics routes from Europe and large hubs.

  • Western belt: Lviv region (14.89%) firmly holds the status of the countryʼs main importer. Together with Rivne (10.15%) and Volyn (8.98%) regions, they form a powerful cluster where the main used car markets are concentrated.
  • Capital demand: Kyiv ranks second (11.75%), being the main consumer of imported transport.
  • Maritime hub: Odessa region (10.0%) closes the top four — even despite the temporary suspension of port operations, a significant number of car services and dealers that dealt with cars from abroad until 2022 continue to maintain activity in this region.

New cars: Odesa vs Kyiv

In the new car segment, January brought a real sensation in the distribution of power.

  • Kyiv vs Odessa: The capital (23.98%) is only a few points ahead of the Odessa region (23.75%). Such a high indicator of the Odessa region indicates high activity of businesses and private buyers in the southern region at the beginning of the year.
  • Kharkiv region (12.57%) confidently took third place, significantly ahead of Dnipropetrovsk (8.38%) and Kyiv (8.15%) regions. This shows the high adaptability and resilience of big business in the region.
  • Outsiders: Unfortunately, activity in the frontline Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhia regions remains zero or close to zero, reflecting the difficult security situation.

Expert opinion

Stanislav Buchatsky, Head of the Institute for Car Market Research:

"Regional statistics for January are a mirror of economic activity. We see how Diya takes over the lionʼs share of domestic deals, relieving physical service centers. But the most surprising is the new car segment: Odessa is actually on a par with Kyiv. This may be a consequence of both large corporate orders and pent-up demand that was realized after the December holidays. The market is shifting towards digital services and large logistics hubs."
