Experts from the Institute of Auto Market Research analyzed vehicle registration statistics in Ukraine and identified the most popular models in three segments of trucks weighing over 3.5 tons (except for tractor units) : used imports, domestic resales, and purchases of new cars, including those converted in Ukraine.
Truck market dynamics
The market volume of trucks with a gross weight of over 3,500 kg as of August 2025 amounted to 1,490 units. Compared to July of the same year, this is 1.5% less, and also 34.2% less compared to August 2024. Monthly dynamics can be seen in the diagram.
The structure of this segment is as follows: 74.6% (1112 units) — domestic resales, 12.1% (181 units) — imports of used trucks; 4.8% (71 units) — imports of new trucks, 8.5% (126 units) — sales of trucks manufactured (or converted in the factory) in Ukraine. The total share of new vehicles in this group was 13.2%.

The dynamics by individual subsegments, the shares of which were just given, are as follows:
- Domestic resales: +4.2% MM, −33.3% YY
- Used imports: −27.3% MM, −25.5% YY
- New imports: +18.3% MM, −24.5% YY
- Made in Ukraine: −8.0% MM, −51.7% YY
Top 10 trucks in the domestic market
The most popular type in this subsegment was dump trucks, with stable demand for vans and flatbed versions.
The situation with models is consistently contrasting: on the one hand, modern cars of European brands, on the other, equipment from Soviet times, which, despite its age, is still in circulation. The leader this time is the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, its “heavy” versions. The second on the list is the GAZ-3307, a typical example of the “legacy of the Union” that is still trying to stay in business. Next on the list is the usual mix of ZiLs and KamAZs and cars from well-known European manufacturers.
It is worth noting that this segment is the oldest in the Ukrainian car market — the average age of trucks in the 3500+kg group was 25 years.

Top 10 imported trucks with mileage
The Ukrainian fleet was most often replenished last month with tail lift vans, regular vans, and refrigerated vans.

In the segment of heavy and medium-duty truck imports, this time the top three are clearly visible: Mercedes-Benz Atego, followed by MAN TGL and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. For obvious reasons, i.e. the lack of supply of Soviet-made vehicles abroad, our fleet is being replenished with used trucks of European brands.
The average age of newly arrived trucks with a gross weight of over 3.5 tons was 9.5 years.

Top 10 new trucks
In terms of types, the greatest demand in this subsegment was for dump trucks, refrigerated vans, and wheeled concrete mixers.
Among the new trucks registered in July, brands unfamiliar to the general public dominate — mostly these are chassis of foreign origin, which after retrofitting in Ukraine receive completely different names. More precisely — indices with a different set of symbols. This time the leadership is taken by Volvo FM, then the list is dominated by representatives of the local market of special equipment and superstructures, which would probably not hurt to work on simplifying the names of their products so that consumers have appropriate associations, understand what kind of machine they are talking about, and analysts would like to compile ratings using the basic platforms as a guideline.
