The distribution of fuel types in the Ukrainian passenger car market shows noticeable changes. While gasoline previously remained the undisputed leader, now more and more drivers are paying attention to electric cars and hybrids. An analysis of three segments — the domestic market, used car imports, and new car sales — shows different rates and nature of changes.
Letʼs consider the current picture based on the results of August, and compare what has changed compared to July 2025.
Domestic market: slow electrification
In the domestic resale segment, gasoline retains its leadership with a share of 43% (-0.3 pp), but is gradually losing ground. Diesel cars are holding steady at 29.1% (+0.1 pp), while the popularity of LPG is decreasing to 20.9% (-0.5 pp). The most noticeable growth is demonstrated by electric vehicles at 4.7% (+0.7 pp), as well as hybrids at 2.1% (+0.2 pp). The share of gas cars (which have no other type of power supply than gas) is 0.3%, unchanged compared to previous periods.

Used car imports: electric cars are gaining popularity
In the segment of used passenger car imports, gasoline cars occupy 47.5% (+0.2 pp), diesel cars — 18.3% (-2.2 pp). In contrast, electric cars are actively conquering the market: 25.6% (+2.3 pp), which is the most dynamic growth in this segment. Hybrids hold a stable 5.5%, while variants with LPG have slightly reduced their presence to 2.9% (-0.2 pp), and gas passenger cars to 0.3% (-0.1 pp).

New cars: new energy
In the new car segment, the distribution looks even more pronounced. Gasoline cars have 31.6% (-2.2 pp), diesel cars — only 16.9% (-2.9 pp). At the same time, electric cars already occupy 28% (+3.2 pp), and versions with hybrid power plants — 23.2% (+1.8 pp). Thus, the total share of "green" energy for the first time exceeds gasoline. Cars with LPG are almost absent in this segment — 0.3% unchanged.

The data confirms that the Ukrainian car market is at the stage of an energy transition. Traditional gasoline and diesel cars still hold the majority, but their positions are methodically weakening. On the other hand, electric cars and hybrids are strengthening their shares every month.
