If a car becomes unusable due to old age, wear, or damage after an accident, there is one last documentary operation that needs to be carried out with it — deregistration due to scrapping. This service is provided by the service centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs free of charge, but it should be noted that a scrapped car can never be put back on the register. On average, Ukrainians apply for this service 2.3 thousand times per month.

However, there was an anomalous period — in May of last year. Then, almost 5.9 thousand vehicles were written off — this is how motorists reacted to some legislative changes related to the mobilization of cars from private owners.
Since the fall of last year, the volume of scrapping has returned to average values. The exceptions are December and January, but there is a reason for this — a cyberattack on state registers stopped the work of the SC of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for a month, covering just part of these months, which led to such results. In April of this year, the number of such vehicles was 2,347 units, which is very close to the average.

Passenger cars are most often rejected — 1,673 of them were removed from the register, which is 71%. 430 trucks were rejected, which is 18%. The rest are motorcycles, trailers and buses.
The top five brands whose license plates were most often removed permanently included the following:
- VAZ — 686 pcs.
- GAS — 214 pcs.
- ZAZ — 93 pcs.
- Daewoo — 85 pcs.
- Opel — 81 pcs.
The average age of vehicles scrapped in April was 27 years.
