Experts from the Institute for Automotive Market Research analyzed statistics on motorcycle registrations and identified the most popular brands in three segments: used imports, domestic resales, and new motorcycles.
Motorcycle market dynamics
The motorcycle segment is the most seasonally dependent among vehicles designed for transporting passengers or cargo. The diagram shows how the market becomes more active in the summer, during the high motorcycle season, and how sales volumes decrease in the off-season.
During 2024Ukrainians purchased 67.9 thousand motorcycles. This is 17.2 % more than in 2023.
Among the total number, 55.1% of motorcycles were new (imported from abroad), in terms of quantity this is 37.4 thousand units.
26.2 thousand motor vehicle purchase and sale agreements were concluded on the domestic market, which accounted for 38.6% of the total.
6.3% of motorcycles were imported used from abroad (4.3 thousand units).
By individual subsegments, the dynamics of motorcycle sales, where seasonality is very clearly expressed and year-on-year comparison is of primary importance, looks as follows:
- Domestic resales: +33.3%
- Imports of used cars: +7.5%
- New imports: +9.0%
Three positive dynamics values by subsegments, among which the most noticeable is the increase in trading on the domestic market.
The most popular motorcycles in the domestic market
In the domestic market, among motorcycle manufacturers in the indicated period, the Japanese brands Honda (3421 purchase and sale agreements) and Yamaha (2660 PPA) prevailed, and also Geon (1876 DKP).
The most popular used motorcycles imported from abroad
Imports of used motorcycles last year were dominated by Japanese brands, mostly Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki. The products of these three manufacturers cover a significant part of the subsegment, or rather, 66.2% of all "freshly imported" motorcycles.
The most popular new motorcycles
New motorcycles in Ukraine are mainly purchased from Chinese manufacturers: in November, the leaders were once again Spark (5,397 first registrations), Mustang (5,169 PR), and Lifan (4,473 PR). In total, the share of Chinese products was 80% in the new motorcycle market.
